The "Donate 10 bucks to the Red Cross" Thread
Ok, there are approximately 47,889 registered users for this board. Imagine if each one of those users made a 10 dollar donation to the Red Cross (or Salvation Army).

To smooth things out, I made a $25 donation. Now three people just need $5 donations.
But my donation was about 30 hours ago...

Calling all ZETAS!!!
Okay...I just made a $25 donation...I am going to challenge my sisters to meet that or at least donate something!
I was going to donate otherwise...my mom works for Red Cross....
After seeing the footage from the Hurricane Katrina, I can't help but donate!

Great job everyone!
Thanks for the link to the Humane society...they're getting cash from me too!
Any of our Southern GC'rs suggest other charities that need some help?

I already donated yesterday.
I was complaining to my husband about my a**hole boss and how I hate working for him. Hubby emailed back "It could be worse, you could be one of those poor people in N.O. or Biloxi." I immediately went to the Red Cross site and donated.
Thanks for starting the thread and providing the link, though!

I'm not southern, but...The McCormick Tribune Foundation will match 50 cents for each dollar (up to $1 million) donated to its Hurricane Relief Fund. The foundation is also paying all the administrative costs so 100% of all donations (and matching funds) will go to various disaster relief organizations. You can donate by credit card online, phone, or mail.
disclaimer: I work at the Tribune.

For the Canadians who want to give:
http://www.redcross.ca
http://www.salvationarmy.ca
This way you can donate in Canadian dollars and still support the relief efforts in the US.

My husband and I donated to the Red Cross this morning. Wish I had seen this first. Good to know, though. ( The McCormick Foundation matching donations.)

I thought if you donated to a big org like the Red Cross it wouldn't go only to one disaster.
That's what was happening after 9/11 with people giving blood and money and realizing it just went to the org to spend as they saw fit and not specifically on one event.
Anyway, good thread.

Rudey m'dear, if you go to the red cross donation page, you may select where you want your cash to go...they have several options aside from hurricane relief. They actually require you to designate where you want your money to go...anywhere from Hurricane relief to national disaster initiative to your local RC to the measles initiative.
