USChica06's Rush Saga

Well,

I hate to say this. I absolutley cannot rush this semester. I really wanted to. More than I can say. I was kinda scared to even post this. But there's no way I can.

It's a matter of money, for one. I will most likely lose my scholarship this semester. USC costs a few pretty pennies. About 20,000 a semester. Something my parents and I are already struggling to meet. Adding 100 for rush registration, plus clothes, plus shoes, make-up, the whole bit just adds up. And if I end up being blessed and recieve a bid, I have monthly dues to work in. Although I have no doubt in my mind that the experience would be worth it, I fear way too much. My dad's company has been cutting back continuously and my mom just got back to work after a year of unemployment. I can't be selfish now.

Plus, there is the fact that I was rejected last year. Now, don't get me wrong. I hold absolutley NO GRUDGES at any sorority or the Greek system as a whole. But so many people in this forum were blessed enough to recieve bids and not experience the tremendous blow that comes with the phone call saying not to come in to pick up your schudule. I won't go into details at all, but I had a very difficult summer. I went through a complete emotional rollercoaster. Just the highest of the high followed by the lowest of the low. I'm kinda at a low point right now, any similar experience as last year might push me over the edge.

I'm disappointed, but I know all good things come in time. And I am willing to wait. Perhaps COB is for me! We'll see. I'll take any advice I can get.

I will let all you know. Perhaps you'll have a new sister in a while. The more the merrier! Wahoo! Although, I must say I will be avoiding the quad where the PNM's gather. I might not be able to resist joining in! Pajamas and all!

Bethany, dear friend, I know how hard of a decision this was to make, and I'm REALLY glad to hear that you're open to COB!! After the glamorous summer job opportunity that you've had, it's good that you settle into some classwork & such before you throw yourself head over heels into rush. Rush can be so exhilarating, and it can be such a let down, and I'm happy that you're giving yourself time to just be. I admit it, I'm even happier that you're still interested in COB, though! Selfish me!!

You just better be thinking of me when the FIRE are thrashing the hated Galaxy on my birthday!!

ROTFL!!!!!

Bethany & I have been discussing this in the past week, and as I said, she needs a break after this summer. I will always want her to be a "real" sister of mine, but she has a good head on her shoulders and has made the right decision for her.

Please excuse me while I go open a vein...

Honey has always been there for me. She's told me not to sweat the small things and just make the right decision. (But, that's no problem, I don't sweat, remember?)

Am I going to be at the HDC on your birthday when the Fire are there? You can look for a sign!!!!!!!!! Well, you can bet that our boys will be doing some damage. Did you know Kelly has a bit of a chapstick obsession? The things I learn.....

Bethany,

I am a USC alum, and circumstances out of my control (family) kept me from rushing... well, as a freshman I was clueless and as a sophomore, family circumstances prevented me from being able to rush. I was heartbroken at the time.

But here I am, 10 years later, a VERY happy Alumna Initiate of Delta Gamma. I was initiated at USC's chapter, and I knew instantly I was home at last.

It is never too late to find sisterhood, just keep that in mind. COB, Alum Initiation, there are still wonderful options open to you.

Fight On fellow Trojan!!
Amy

Bethany -- don't give up completely -- hopefully your circumstances will allow you to do COB -- and if not, then you can try to rush as a junior...you will be more established on the campus and know more people.

I rushed as a junior at USC with two strikes against me -- band geek and ROTC cadet...I refused to believe that being a junior was my third strike...

Good luck with the scholarship -- I had two scholarships while at USC and a huge loan plus I worked at the USC bookstore, then Tam's -- ROTC gave me nothing till I was a junior and then I got a small monthly allowance (women were not eligible for ROTC scholarships until the year after I graduated in 1976.)

Just keep a positive attitude as best you can and get to know a lot of fellow trojans...you will be surprised where that networking can take you!

I wish you GOOD THINGS!

And now for COB!

Ok, so I went to an Alpha Chi Omega party tonight. (I'm not gonna get to be all cute with colors and such because everyone knows already)

I got invited by two people! One was a girl I knew all of last year and one was a girl who decided to call me on a whim I guess. I got to the house not knowing what to expect. I underdressed a lot last time so I didn't want to risk that again. I ended up being a tad overdressed, but not noticable. Like black pants in a room full of jeans.

I met the girl who invited me and we started talking about our summers etc...It was a little rough at first with there being so many girls in this echoing room. I couldn't think of things to say really!!!

After some of the girls left and it was more relaxed I had a god conversation with about 5-7 of the girls. For some reason, they all knew of Bethany Beach in Delaware and were all asking me about it. Funny really! Anyways...

I didn't feel "at home," as I've seen that term used here. Something is just telling me that it's a great house, but perhaps, not for me.

While I was there a girl was extended a bid and she accepted I believe because they introduced her as their newest member! So, A Chi O's you have a new sister tonight!!!

I wasn't extended a bid, didn't expect one either. Not this soon. I will see the person who invited me tomorrow morning though! So I'll talk to her then!

That's a little bit of the COB process for me!

Are you planning to get out any other houses? I would give AXO a couple more chances if possible. It sounds like it was kind of crazy in there tonight...I'm sure as the COB events progress, they will get a little more intimate and chill. Good Luck!

I would definitely give AXO another look - sometimes it takes more than one night to get a good feel for a house, especially when it's a larger chapter and there is such a diverse range of personalities!

Will there be any other COB parties for you to check out?
