Smile Nader Discusses Obama

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...ite/#more-8159

(CNN) — Ralph Nader's presidential candidacy has received little media attention, but his latest critique of Barack Obama has come under fire for it's seemingly racial overtones

I completely understand and agree with Nader to a great extent.

However, there is always a method. As a white man, sure Nader can tell Obama to be more overt with his intentions toward the racialized structure and addressing the issues that certain groups of people disproportionately face. So the half of me that comes from the DuBoisian school of thought agrees with Nader. But, the other half of me is from the Booker T. Washington school of thought (really the Douglass school of thought, if you take the "black jokes in front of white audiences" aspect out of it) in that you are nonthreatening so you can get what you need to get to accomplish your goal.

The irony is that Nader's comments may serve to increase whites' skepticism over Obama and other black candidates. If that isn't what Nader intended to do, he is unintentionally playing on typical race sentiments.

What say you?

Oh and he didn't mean "talking white" in the sense that Obama speaks with proper English, etc.

That's important to note. Every place this article is linked has used the "talking white" as the catch phrase to get people interested in reading the article and riled up, expecting to read a bunch of racially charged and insensitive comments.

I decided to post in this one because there was more discussion.

I understand where Nader is coming from.

Part of what he said is like.....d'uh, dude. You can't win an election on "black is beautiful" so why would Barack even use that strategy?

In a nutshell: Nader is a player hater. Either play the game or take your jacks and go home.

Yeah Nader is doing what he's been accused of doing in previous elections: Posing a threat to the Democratic party but not because Nader will actually win an election.

Well, Nader really is playing the game - however, he can't be more specific (i.e. he can't conclude with "Obama's 'Hope' platform often becomes a prayer for socialist relief for the white middle class") because that will just drive more voters to Obama, regardless of veracity.

That doesn't change the fact that he's onto a pretty good point.

Yep in the stuff I've read about Obama's platform, he discussed economic relief and a redistribution of wealth.

I don't listen to his speeches so he may've addressed the disproportionate representation of blacks in poverty, unemployment, imprisonment, etc. and tied that into his platform.
