Help! UT Knoxville rush
Hey, I am new to this and I need some help. I currently am a freshman at UT Martin. Next year I will be transferring to UT Knoxville and since I have less than 30 transferrable hours I will be classified as a freshman once again. I have a lot of questions! When I rush do I say that I am in my 2nd year or that I am a freshman? I dont know ANYONE that is in a sorority because I am from a town of 2000 people who either don't go to college or go to a community one. I did, however, contact the Nashville Alumnae Associaton for recs. I mailed the letter today so hopefully that will help. Will my GPA for high school or my first year of college be used? I made a 31 on my ACT and had a 3.77 in high school and around a 3.5 this year in college. I was wondering what my chances of getting a bid would be. I was accepted into the Scholars program at UTM (only 42 people out of 8000 are accepted) I joined many clubs in high school and I have played softball all of my life--i got mvp, best defense, and best offense award. I also do not know anyone at UT Knoxville. Any info will be greatly appreciated!!

We can't tell you what your chances would be because we just don't know. You might get a bid, you might not.
I would THINK that if you have a college GPA established, that is what the sororities would use. Check with the Greek Life office at UTK on that.
Also, here's a thread about UTK and transfers in recruitment. Maybe it has good advice for you:

Well, you do know people who went to college because all your teachers went! It doesn't have to be your peers - it can be women from church, work, teachers, trainers, coaches, etc. Ask around. You'd be surprised. And surely some folks at UTM were in sororities too.

My mom was in an honors sorority at her private college but it's not at UTK. I'm sorry for being monotonous with asking questions already asked. But, I did search on here for like 4 hours trying to gather info. I was just wanting more personal answers. Thank you so much for your help!!

Once again, it does not have to be a relative, nor someone in the chapter currently, nor someone who went to UTK. They may have been in a UTK sorority at any other school in the country at any other time. A member is a member. Ask around.

I know it doesn't have to be a current member or anything like that. My town is just really small and no one knows of anyone who has a successful sorority story. I wrote the Nashville association thing because they have a form to fill out if someone is needed recs. I actually did research! haha but anyway, I hope it works out for me! I have always seen myself as a sorority member. If God wants it to work, then it will work. That's how I have decided to look at it. Thanks for your advice!

what about girls(former h.s. classmates) who joined sororities this past year? some sororities allow their collegiate members to write a rec., or they may know an alumna they could ask on your behalf to write you a rec.

I highly support you transferring to my esteemed university. As for what you should say, tell them you're in your 2nd year, but still classified as a freshman. There's no reason to lie. Emphasize that you aren't classified as a freshman because of slacking, but simply because not all your classes transfer. Regarding the chances, I can't really speak to that. My guess is that, giving them 4 years worth of your sisterhood puts you about as close to even as possible. Good luck, and Go Vols!

FSUZetaOnly 4 girls--other than myself--did not go to our local community college which does not have sororities. They also did not rush. But thank you so much for suggesting it! I hadn't even thought about that. (:

Maybe your instructors at CC? And what happened when you contacted the local alumnae association?

I am currently attending UTM and have only had one female professor that I no longer see. I decided not to rush here so that I could at Knoxville--I'm ecstatic. And I just sent the letter off in the mail yesterday, so I will be sure to inform you of what is sent back to me!!

I am from a small town north of Nashville. Only about 1500 people live here and out of my graduating class only 12 (including myself) people out of 170 did not go to CC. 2 have already dropped out and went back to CC though. It's hard to make it out of this town so I'm extremely proud of my classmates that were able to achieve going to their dream college! They really earned it!

Congrats! I highly suggest utilizing http://sorority.utk.edu/ if you haven't already. Call Panhellenic and get some info.

Thanks! I have definitely looked at the site, and I loved it! I know some people go in with their mind set as to who they would like to rush, but I'm definitely going in with an open mind because all of the sororities seem incredible!
