Little IL - Ohio U Recruitment
I'm getting excited for my kid sister, Little IrishLake (aka LIL). She's enjoying her summer, working and hanging at the beach. She is VERY excited to leave for college though, it can't come soon enough for her. She's been putting together her info for recs. It looks like she will have recs for 4 or 5 orgs going into the fall. Ohio University is not a competative campus, but I encouraged her to find them anyway, they can't hurt (I helped a bit). The only downside is getting her high school to supply her transcripts! It's a tiny school, with few staff, and no one is around who can help right now.
She goes for Bobcat Orientation at the end of this month, and she's going to sign up for Recruitment then. She's looking forward to meeting the girls in chapters that she has some connections to. However, she's not biased, she's definately an independent one and will go where her heart takes her.
OU has nine active NPC chapters:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Xi Delta
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Delta Zeta
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Kappa
LIL is a HUGE fan of Nicholas Sparks books and movies, so I'm going to name the chapters after 9 of his books. (She's also a big Twilight fan, but I can't bring myself to do a Twihard themed Recruitment story). In random order, they are:
Dear John
The Lucky One
The Guardian
The Notebook
The Rescue
The Choice
A Bend in the Road
Message in a Bottle
The Last Song
The next two months will go by quickly! I can't wait to tell her live story!

Those are all awesome chapters. Fingers crossed that she finds her home, just as you found yours. Looking forward to reading about Little IL's recruitment.

Well, bummer that there is no Theta chapter but she will find an excellent home in any of those groups. Best of luck to her!

Yay! Another Bobcat story! Although it is sad that two orgs have left since I went through rush there...

Forever, I knew Phi Mu recently left... who else was there when you were?
(I DID hint to LIL that if she just couldn't possibly see herself in any of those 9 houses, she could spearhead a Theta recolonization effort there... I've been reading OU recruitment numbers are on the up, so it's possible! However, all of the houses there are so good, I'd bet money on her finding a great, existing home.)

Good luck to LIL! I toured OU last summer with my older son. He was accepted there and got a small scholarship but elected to attend Marshall University, DH's and my alma mater. Lots of good chapters to choose from there, but I have to admit I'm pulling for Sigma Kappa!

Delta Gamma colonized my freshman year and Phi Sigma Sigma left my junior year.
AOII then bought the Phi Sig house and Sig Ep moved into the old AOII house. I know the Phi Mu house was just sold, but I'm not sure to whom- but they had an awesome sorority house location. I would love to see numbers go up at OU- when I was there pledge classes were routinely in the 40-50 member range and total was 150. Now pledge classes are closer to 25 and I'm sure total is lower as well.

After the Delts moved out of the Phi Mu house in fall 2009 (they were leasing it while their shelter was renovated), Phi Mu sold it to a local agency (Prokos Rentals...). Prokos is leasing the house to Sigma Pi (chartered in January) so they will have the house beginning in the fall.
Women's recruitment numbers have been slowly increasing in the last 2 years. Upperclass quota was implemented last fall (Q=21 for first years; Q=5 for upperclassmen in 2009) and that has helped place some of the sophomores that would traditionally get released through formal recruitment. Total was decreased from 135 to 125 in 2008 and more chapters were meeting total in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

I'm a little irked right now, and I don't know who I am irked with more. My sister, or whoever she talked to.
My sister had OU orientation the past 2 days. I asked her if she signed up for formal recruitment while she was there. She said no. Our FB conversation follows:
Me
did you sign up for recruitment while you were at OU?
Her
they arent recruiting this year at all
Her
there just doing formal rush or whatever
Me
formal rush is the same thing as recruitment
Her
noo they said that they arent like looking for people anymore
Me
who told you that?
Her
this chick
that was in a sorierty
Me
she lies
Her
idk
Me
I don't know if Pi Phi can participate in formal rush because they're on probation, maybe she was only speaking for her group
Her
she said that if you are interested in joining a sorierty then you do it the 2nd and 3rd weekend in school and no sorority is looking for people everyone just rushes and blahblahblah
Me
yeah, that sounds right.
i dont know why she said no one is looking for people though.
Her
idk
Me
http://www.ouwpa.com/page.php?page_id=108604
tells you all you need to know.
there is definately fall formal recruitment.
Her
i know that thats not what im saying
they arent looking for people that have siblings in sorierty or have connections or something
Me
legacies?
Her
yeah sure idk
Me
regardless, i think you're just confused on what she was saying
you still have to sign up/register for it if you want to participate.
Her
i know that
So now I'm annoyed. I'm trying to convince myself I wasn't this moody when I was 18.

just strangle her now and get it over with.
sounds like , just as the proverbial stubborn mule, she has laid her ears back, and is trying to demonstrate that you can't make her register for recruitment or join a sorority. that she will do what she damn well pleases.
hopefully she will decide on her own to register for recruitment and go thru the process.
