For all they know, it's campus rumor that that group lost their house for a risk management or other violation. It could be that there was a problem with the house and it was too expensive to fix or who knows what. If a group did something 'bad' enough to lose their house, they wouldn't still have a charter, I would think. Nationals don't take away houses w/o taking away the chapter, for goodness sake. Taking away a house and leaving the chapter is dooming it.
Unless you can find conclusive evidence (a news report or something) that verifies this rumor, I wouldn't believe it. Your Rho Chi is not doing her job if she is talking like this. She is supposed to be supportive of all groups, that's her job.

While I agree that it wasn't appropriate for the Rho Chi to say about this chapter's house, and that it's probably a rumor (I've lived in Madison my whole life and I can't remember this particular chapter EVER having a house, although granted I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to that when I was younger), the overall vibe that people are getting from this house is kind of sketchy. One girl from this sorority asked a girl in my rush group what her parents did for a living -- I'm not sure if she just didn't know that you weren't supposed to ask questions like that or what, but it was very inappropriate. I also asked my rusher what kinds of things they did for their philanthropy and she couldn't tell me. She just said, "Um, well . . . we basically just raise money for them and stuff."
So regardless of whether or not the house thing is true (and I don't think it is), I do think that she should stick with her gut feeling on this particular group.
Side note: this particular sorority originally colonized at our school in the '50s, then disbanded (or whatever the technical term for that is) at some point, I'm not sure when, and recolonized in the early '80s -- so maybe they lost their house after the original chapter lost its charter, and never reacquired a house after recolonizing? Would that make sense?

Wow...sorry if that little thing about #6 was offensive to anyone. I didn't mean to because I just wanted to share my recruitment experience. Anyway...finally tonight will be my last night of first rounds! We'll visit 4 more houses and then I get to do ranking!!! I guess we will find out what houses we are going back to next week Tuesday, which is the first night of second rounds! I'll post an update when I get home tonight!

Finally, the last night of first rounds! We visited four houses...
#8- This was a really cool, relaxed house. They had a fun vibe to them, especially during their cute skit! The girls in the house were really nice and easy to talk to, and I ended up having something in common with both girls I talked to!
#9- The house was nice and relaxed. During their skit, they talked about all aspects of their sorority, which was nice. I ended up asking a lot of questions which wasn't so bad, but the girls weren't as talkative.
#10- My favorite! I loved the vibe in the house! Everyone was so different, but they were so enthusiastic for their sisterhood! The skit was great. I ended up talking to one girl the whole time, which normally would make me nervous, but it wasn't bad at all because we had so much in common!
#11- This sorority was nice and down-to-earth...a mix of outgoing and laid-back at the same time. The skit was original and was pretty good. The girls were also pretty easy to talk to.
So, after we visited the last sorority, we had to do ranking. I'm glad I thought of this ahead of time because otherwise I would've been there for a long time! Here's my order from favorite to least. In the next round, we visit up to seven houses!
10, 4, 8, 1, 2, 7, 5, 11, 9, 3, 6...Hopefully I'll get invited back to all seven of my first choices, or at least the first bunch of them!!!! Just our recruitment group is getting together this weekend, but I won't know what houses I'm going back to visit until the beginning of second rounds on Tuesday!!! That's too long to wait!

Second Rounds Finally!!!
Finally second rounds! I ended up getting to go back to my top seven, so I was really happy but at the same time it's overwhelming because now I'm just afraid I'm going to confuse myself and be sitting with my rho chi on preference night for a long time! Anyway, the houses I'm visiting during second round are in no order: Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi, and Chi Omega. Anyway, I won't reveal how I numbered them, but I'm going to keep using those same numbers as I go through this. So, this is how tonight went:
#1- What a coincidence, the first house I visited was the same in both first and second rounds! Anyway...I liked the house again and I had great conversations as we toured the house and did their little philanthropy project. I was surprised that their themes changed, given that I don't know much about recruitment...it was "Under the Sea". However, I wasn't as comfortable as I was first round and though it's a great house with great girls, I probably won't be preffing them.
#4- I really liked this house again, definitely. The girls were really easy for me to talk to and they had a cute little _____ Cafe theme. Their house is absolutely gorgeous too! Since I definitely felt comfortable in this house, I could definitely see myself being here and it'll be a tough decision come preference round...if I get into it though, I know I'll feel good about it.
#10- Oh, I loved this house again! Right away I saw the same girl I had talked to (the only girl I talked to) during first rounds, so we said hi and waved though we didn't get to talk again. (Side note: one of my rho chis said the same thing happened to her, how she talked to one girl and felt so comfortable and she ended up in that house...maybe the same will be for me???). They have a nice house and I just love the energy they have for their sisterhood and everything! They hade a 50's theme, "Happy Days at ______"
#8- My god, gorgeous house, right on the lake! But anyway, I felt so comfortable at this house too, no wonder it was one of my favorites last round. The girls just seem so down to earth and easy to talk to. This will be another house that'll make it difficult to rank and when preference round rolls around!
So...4 down, 3 to go tomorrow! We rank tomorrow night too and then we will find out Friday which houses we will be visiting that night for preference round! After that, we rank and get our bid Sunday...I can't wait!!!
