Off topic but touching thought nonetheless...
...As many have just finished another year of college and are either relaxing for a new school year (or taking summer courses), working to pay for college next year or that expensive little bauble each of us deserves every now and then, vacationing, seeing family, kicking back or contemplating our futures after graduation...We tend to reflect on our lives at this time...
Here is a boundary breaker question for you...As the 10 year anniversary of Princess Diana's untimely death approaches , where were you/what were you doing when this tragic event spread around the world and how, if at all, has her work with charity or selflessness or just her spirit of life affected you? I think she would have made a pretty good Alpha Phi, ya' think?! We are all sisters at heart whether or not we are Greek affiliated...
Your thoughts?

She died the night before I moved into the dorms my freshman year. It totally through me for a loop. I was unnerved by it, and then I went to school and hated life. I've always sort of correlated the two together-awful first month and her death. Too bad I didn't think to rush my freshman year. It must be really hard for her sons, having their mother die and the entire world paying close attention to the details as well as them. I've always felt bad for them because of it.

I'm going to reveal just how much of a dork I am...
<dork>
... but I was in a chat room on IRC when I heard about her death. I had a TV tuner card in my Mac and had ABC News running on my computer while giving updates to people in the chat room.

I was in VA for the weekend attending my sister-in-law's wedding. (How odd is that Jill, that I was in NOVA?) I remember getting back to our room at the B&B we were staying at and seeing it on TV. I know many people were devistated by her death and the thoughts of her potential achievements unfulfilled, and many who were in awe of her remain frozen by her death. I don't really think of it like that though. I look at her death and how life continues to go on. Her children have grown into handsome men on the brink of discovering their own greatness. My sister-in-law is long since divorced. And while she probably would have achieved so much more if she had lived, Diana left enough of a legacy to touch many and make a positive impact on the world. Leave little bits of your own legacy all along the way. Don't save it all up to the end to make your mark on the world.

I was in bed asleep when my friend called to tell me the news. I vividly remember the funeral because it was the same day as the annual street fair in my town and crowds were pretty thin that day.

I was at home on the computer...and, also being dorky, I was updating my personal homepage with info every few minutes and putting it in one of the search engines that (at the time) catalogued updated submissions right away so they'd show up in search.

I was at a movie (Batman and Robin? one of those Batman movies) with my boyfriend. When I got home, I heard about the accident, and was quite saddened. A girlfriend invited me to sleep over that night, and we stayed up late watching the news, and as I was about to doze off, they announced that she had passed away.
