I haven't posted on GC in......years. HI GC!!!!
Left the classroom in 2017 to join an Edtech startup. I was laid off at the end of this past January after a significant miss by the sales team in 2019 (I wasn't in sales). Earlier this week, I signed an offer to join another startup in a different industry. I'm really, really excited about this opportunity even though it's a significant pay cut. The growth potential is uh-mazing and the CEO wants to personally mentor me.
The layoff hit me to the ground. But, I'm so happy it did. It's amazing what we are all capable of when we have to be!

We're starting to reopen where I live. My husband and I have dined out twice so far (restaurants are allowed to seat at 25% capacity) and we've been impressed by the measures both restaurants have taken. Masks for all staff, gloves for bussers, one restaurant provided paper bags for us to place our masks in while eating and had hand sanitizer bottles available at all tables, the other brought us a card reader so we could pay our check as close to contactless as possible (even pre-adding the tip so we wouldn't have to handle a pen that heaven knows how many other people have touched).
One of the reasons we moved here was the awesome restaurants. Our two favorites haven't reopened yet, but it's been nice to be able to go out and dine instead of deciding whether to cook or order delivery.

I've lost all faith in humanity. This world we're living in is absolutely insane.

Same. But it’s over, anyway. Monkeys STOLE Covid-positive blood samples from a scientist in India. Buh-bye.

Hope you're enjoying that giant chocolate bar you found, leftover from the Easter Egg hunt, sir.

When it's safe to go, I'm going to go to Universal Studios in LA and go get my time turner and my wand from Ollivander's. I was going to go during my spring break but COVID-19 had other plans.

Fireflies are rapidly lighting-up my backyard tonight. Anyone else able to view their nocturnal display?

Yes, ours have been out in Indiana for a couple weeks...a little early it seems. They are beautiful on a warm summer evening and highly entertaining for our cats!

So now the mayor of New Orleans is threatening to shut down the city again.
Apparently people aren't following the rules. There were several graduation parties and a Juneteenth party where people were not wearing masks or doing any social distancing. The other day, I was at a biergarten that was running at 100% capacity (we're at phase 2 which allows restaurants to operate at 50% capacity) and half the customers weren't wearing masks or practicing social distancing. Masks are mandatory but people aren't wearing them.
COVID deaths are down, but cases are up.
So now, all of us, including those of us who have been responsible and have been following the rules, get to suffer because some people don't feel like wearing a mask and doing the right thing ... in a city that relies on tourism.

This year has sucked the big one so far. Between COVID, murder hornets (actually, what happened to them?), George Floyd getting killed, and protests turning violent (don't get me wrong, the Black Lives Matter protests had to happen, and I'd've been right out there protesting if not for COVID ... I'm upset that violence and looting have come out of some of the protests), this year needs a do-over.
This evening, my husband and I are going to a "New Year's Redeux" party where we're going to celebrate the start of 2020-A. Time to bust out the bubbly and hope that the second half of this year is an improvement.
And he and I are going to take our first step towards that by voting tomorrow in Louisiana's primary. COVID may keep me away from the protests, but it ain't keeping me away from the polls.
ETA: The party is at a friend's house. She has a pretty big backyard so we will be able to practice social distancing while knocking back the bubbly.

On this GC website, in 2008, 'Chuck Norris' once pledged to protect the entire NPC from The Axis of Evil....
