I'm so mad and embarrassed right now. It turns out that job interview was a SCAM. Ughhhh I don't want to go into details, but I'm pretty bummed. I thought this was going to be a good thing and my first "grown-up" job, but I have to go back to the drawing board. I'm so sick of looking for jobs, and I know my search has only just begun.
My dad offered to take me out to lunch today, but I have to fast for a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I can. Wahhhh!!!

I'm sorry lucy! how was it a scam? did they want you to invest money? or did they want you to sell un-needed insurance to elderly people? (I had an interview for the latter one time... I had no idea what it was for).

I don't feel comfortable talking about it right now, but they weren't upfront with me about how the job would work. It was also commission-based, which is NOT for me. I still had some questions about the company today, but my dad texted me a warning about something he had found on Google. My suspicions were pretty much confirmed right after that.

To most people: the metal community is a lot larger and more diverse than you think. Groups like Death, Emperor, Wintersun, Between the Buried and Me, and Rhapsody of Fire all identify as metal, but are very different in their approach and overall sound.
Also, metalheads aren't all greasy man-children.

Don't feel bad. I once went to a thing where they were "interviewing" for sales people and it ended up being a scam where you sell knives door-to-door. Also, I wanted a job in college and there was this job offer that they tried to offer me where I would be shipped out to TN (on my own dime) then randomly shipped out to CA (once again, on my own dime) after doing 16 hours for 2 weeks straight in TN of training. I was supposed to sell Encyclopedias door-to-door in the bad neighborhoods by myself. I was crushed.

@DS: Very busy, my involvement in the LGBT center I volunteer at has gone up, I work two jobs and the drum corps season is about to start. The recent times I've been in the chat I've been alone or spaced out forever.

I watched the first SATC movie for the first time last night. laughed, cried, all that jazz.
The ending further supports my theory that this second movie is purely a money-maker. Everyone--SJP and co, Darren Star, Candace Bushnell, HBO, Hollywood--is milking this cow to the last drop.

Ugh, yeah. I went to a Cutco meeting 5 or so years ago, too. Actually, I think I was still in high school.
Blah!!!

That is too funny because that is the same exact company I meant for the knives! I think I felt worse about the summer position as an Encylopedia job because if you didn't earn enough money by the end of the summer, you were screwed and couldn't make it home. To top it off, they wanted you to live with some random host family that you knew nothing about. It was the craziest scheme ever. I see those same kids knocking on my door this summer (it happened twice already) with the same story, except selling magazines.

Ah cutco. When they told me we had to shell out for the demonstration set I said hell no. plus as a 21 year old I had an issue with a 19 year old being my boss.

that's awful! esp since no one uses hardcopy encyclopedias anymore. man i loved encyclopedias and dictionaries. it hurts to help kids with homework now - every other word, i want to scream "look it up!" but i know theyll run to the computer. then ask me how to spell the word.
and Cutco/Vector has some NERVE to be aat our school's career fair every year - all the freshman marketing/finance majors flock to the table knowing the big 4 and other firms wont sneeze at them. suckas.
