I Hate My Job

I really need some advice. I started a new Job as an Admissions' Counselor. The job description was pretty much sitting with prospective students and convincing them to enroll in the school and to discuss their Placement exam scores with them. When I was a week into the job, I found out that most of my day would be spent, telemarketing to these "prospective" students.

Then I later found out that I had to meet a quota! It was really a SALES job all along, I really wanted to do counseling. And to top it off, they are now sending me to the department of Labor to recruit people to come into th school, but the people I recruit do not count towards my enrollment quota.

This is not what I wanted to do at all!!! I've only been there for a month and I am dying. I HATE IT SOOOOOOOO MUCH but it's only been a month.

Any advice?

Hi KC,

The school wouldn't happen to be University of Phoenix.

One of my new coworkers worked for them for about 6 months and hated it the whole time!!!! By the way, if it is UofP they probably didn't tell you that if you don't make quota your salary will get cut. It turns out you're not really on a salary but more like a commission.

She said for her the hardest part of the job was when she had to recruit students she knew wouldn't make it (not good students) but they weren't allowed to recommend students to a JC first. Plus, the school really pushes their employees to have their students who can't afford to pay the $1000's of dollars a semester to file for "financial aid" which is only student loans.

I don't have much a recommendation for you except to start looking for other jobs ASAP!!!!! Don't worry about the length of time you've been there. If asked in an interview why you are looking for another job tell them the truth about the place. If it's another university they'll already know the horror stories more then likely.
