point systems
Do any of you use point systems to track attendance at events, and what members are doing in your chapters? How exactly do they work? If you'd rather PM me, that's fine I need some help!

Yes, my chapter does use point systems. The person in charge of the event takes attendance and turns in the sheet. Different events are worth different points, and an exec member can choose to award points or not during her event. I don't know that much about the nitty gritty stuff. We use points and help determine bed and roof preference.

My chapter has points and uses them in a similar way. Each week, Exec chooses an event (maybe two) that are point events, like attending a non-mandatory sorority function or a sister's concert. There are also other things you can earn points for, such as being on Exec, filling out a professor evaluation for our files, wearing your pin on a day other than the day of chapter, etc., etc. At the end of the term the person with the most points gets a prize. In the past we have had massages, letter hoodies, and letter message boards (which I won!!! ) as prizes. We also use them to determine things like living in the house, etc.
I think points are pretty much a Pan-Pi Phi thing. Our Efficiency Chair is in charge of points.

I've worked with points systems for both my sorority and my honors frat...we use points more for a basic standard that everyone must live up to -- if you don't get a certain percentage of points, there are penalties. We also make them fun by giving prizes to the person with the highest percentage of points per month.
Are you trying to create a points system for your chapter, shadokat? If you want more help, I can go into a lot greater detail on our systems, since I helped create both of them! Good luck!

I forget how we used the point system, but I will share what I do remember. We had mandatory events such as rush, mixers, weekly dinners, alcohol awareness and sisterhood, scholarship, philanthropic, and community service events. Attendence was mandatory unless you had a class, work, illness, or an unforeseen emergency. You had to have a certain number of points in order to attend the formal. There were certain optional events for which you could receive additional points in case you missed a mandatory event. If you missed a mandatory event without an excuse, I think that you had to pay a fine. I forget the details. I just remember it wasn't very successful. It was hard for sisters with evening classes to attend some of the events. They weren't penalized, but they had to call and excuse themselves. Ultimately, we never had the heart not to let someone attend the formal.
Anyway, I hope that it works out better for you.
