But they don't LIVE in it. I know they'll need one eventually, but I would think the need would be less pressing if all they use it for is meetings.

It's Texas. It's not UT, but still a large university witha large GreekLife presence. I would bet that the presenting groups will have taken into account in their assessments the need for a lodge sooner rather than later.

Not 100% sure how it works at TTU (but had a family member go there who was greek), but I believe the university owns the land for Greek Circle, which isn't close to...anything. It's far from the "main part" of campus and the dorms. I would think a group would need a lodge (even a spartan one) for recruitment purposes right off the bat. I guess they could use a fraternity lodge (they are there on Greek Circle too) but...ick?

To be competitive, the colonizing group will HAVE to get a lodge pretty quickly - and not just a spartan lodge - it will have to be at least on a par with what's there now. Again, the problem is cash flow - not having live ins means it's harder to recoup your investment.

Why do they do this lodge thing rather than building houses that at least a portion of the chapter can actually live in?

Sidenote: my apologies for asking, but what exactly is a lodge in this context?? I google image searched it, but they look like houses?

TX Tech

I have no idea why they have always had lodges and not houses.

Because Lubbock ordinances would consider a residence with that many women a bordello.

I kid! I kid!

There actually was a rule or something but it wasn't the bordello urban legend. It may have been imposed by the University back when the lodges were built.

I have no idea why they are called lodges. It makes me think of

Ha! Totally what it reminds me of! I will say, they are beautiful in person...not at all what I expected, because of the word "lodge". I've been inside one, and it has a big kitchen, two big living areas (where rush parties are held) and an upstairs (that I did not go to) where the chapter room, etc... is.

My assumption is that the reasoning that they aren't able to live in them has something do do with TTU owning the land? But I thought maybe some of the fraternities had live-ins (I could be wrong about that? Maybe its just that they have parties, etc... at their lodges?)

Really hoping for AXiD to get more chapters in the west. Texas Tech and Northern AZ are both a few hours drive from where I'm at currently.

Not for sure why they call them lodges but it's not new. I believe they call them lodges at Rhodes and at LA Tech to name a few.

Those at Texas Tech are very spacious with chapter offices, chapter room, living areas and large kitchens.
