Acacia has closed their Indiana University chapter due to RMF. The fraternity plans to recolonize in 2 years.

Ole Miss

I had previously heard that 6 NPC sororities were interested in the Ole Miss expansion. This was confirmed today...ADPi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Delta Zeta, and ZTA have made campus visits.

ADPi and ZTA have been on this campus in the past.

I do not know when the chapters will be chosen to make their CPC presentations or when the presentations will be made.

I do know that the current chapters have been told to expect quota to be between 140-150 this fall.

PHEW! It sounds like they could use all six organizations on campus, and it'd still only bring down quota to somewhere in the 80-90 range! I'm a little bummed that Gamma Phi isn't looking, but not really surprised.

That is higher than our campus chapter total!! I can't even imagine that.

Correction on Front Page

Alpha Sigma Tau will not be colonizing at Iona College. University of Southern Indiana is also not a re-colonization, it will be a cold start!

Just wanted to make sure the correct information was out there!

Just a point of clarification. Quota is not set until pref night. And even then we will not know how many PNMs are registered until late August 2012. The numbers 140-150 were given to chapters to "prepare”. (You know for purchasing bid day goodies, preparing for food on bid day, etc, etc, etc).

Yes, perhaps I should have said that a bit clearer...my intention was to say that they are preparing for the largest pledge class/quota in the nation (possibly).

With expectations of new member classes near 150, can you imagine the size that the colonies will be? 300?

I bet Ole Miss will wait and see how it goes with Arkansas and colonize one, two, three or more all at once depending on how smoothly it goes. They certainly have the numbers to justify a mass introduction of chapters, but they don't want any to fail so it has to be done just right. I think doubling the size of their total panhellenic in one swoop probably isn't the greatest idea however. There are traditions and processes that would probably be lost with literally a 1000 new members with no historical reference from which to draw. May 2, 2, 2, over 8 or 10 years? It also wouldn't surprise me if the colonies fix a number they want to pledge that doesn't necessarily correlate to average chapter size or anything.

These huge colonies are going to test the way it's done! I've noticed over the last year or two that the colonies are not pledging to 100% of what they're allowed, and I could see in a place like Ole Miss that this would continue. Maybe they'll only pledge to 50% of allowed capacity and then do another round the next semester to allow themselves time to grow a bit more gently and allow the existing chapters to shrink more gently. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
