Delta Gamma alumna here.
SWTXBelle is correct.
Thank you, SWTXBelle, for going to such extraordinary measures to verify.

Reading isn't your strong suit, is it?

And I, a Delta Gamma, had already said that as well. SWTX Belle just verified it. And who would go to a cemetery at night to bury a pin at anyone's grave???? And how did he get in? Aren't most locked at night? And if his MS is that bad, and I know people who have it very bad, I doubt he could get down on hands and knees, dig a deep enough hole and bury it. Obviously a genetic code issue in that family....

Small town cemeteries don't have gates, let alone locks. (I grew up next door to one that we played Flashlight Tag in frequently. )

But yeah, once again brother seems to be doing remarkably well for a person so riddled with MS that we have to cut him all sorts of slack.

Random thought: do some of the posts in this thread give anyone else the creeps? Digging in the dirt to bury a piece of jewelry? At NIGHT? What??? *shudder* (I crashed a car in a cemetery once upon a time. It was sort of an accident, sort of. That belongs in another thread. The one about getting in big trouble.)

And, the part of me that loves vintage fraternity and sorority jewelry is all like *sad face* that a piece of jewelry that might be actually cherished by a Delta Gamma is in the dirt. That is not right. What if someone comes along with a metal detector? Or a bird digs it up, or a raccoon? or some other critter? Like, here it would be a pack rat that would get it for sure; they love shiny objects. And -

oh, nevermind.

This was a large part of my problem with it as well. As for it maybe being a small town cemetery, she said he lives in Denver so I assumed it was a larger one that would be locked. Maybe it was smaller. But burying it??? Ugh! I am even more distressed over this family.

Somehow I doubt this was actually buried. In reading her original post about it, it sounds like she said that simply to get everyone here off her case.

I mean, she can NEVER tell her brother what to do, but then she convinces him, in the middle of the night, to go find his grandmother's grave and bury his favorite tie tack in the ground next to it?

I'm not buying it.

Thank you, Titchou and ASTalumna06. I feel much better after reading both your posts. Yes, the OP is probably not telling the truth (I would simply say "lying", but I am trying to avoid any trouble this morning).

Personally, I questioned:why not offer it to a Delta Gamma member who would cherish it? Or as someone else suggested, frame it in a shadow box along with other GLO memorabilia, out of respect? You don't have to send it to Headquarters if you don't want to. But - dirt? that's not right. Okay, okay. I'll stop.

I sat next to the most delightful DG alumna at a Panhellenic luncheon yesterday. We talked a lot about the founding of our respective fraternities. She was a riot! Becoming involved in our local Panhellenic Association is one of the best decisions I've made, thanks to AZ-Alpha Xi!

Here's a positive suggestion. Instead of wearing the non-sanctioned DG crest pin, how about getting brother a DG themed tie, if they make them? I bought a Gamma Phi Beta tie for my dad at the vendor tables when I went to convention in college...it was really preppy with cute crescent moons embroidered on it. On the back, there was a label that said, "made expressly for Gamma Phi Beta Sorority". He really liked that tie and he wore it a lot when I was in college. Not too long ago, he said, "Hey, I wonder where that tie went?"

I bet he gave it to Goodwill and now some man with no connection to Gamma Phi is wearing it!!!

I know you can get anchor-designed ties.

As to the evening grave shenanigans - "there was this one thing . . . "

Hey, a book could be based on this thread. I'm serious. There are so many plot possibilities here.

I forget his original handle, but he is a badge collector who used to post pretty heavily in the badge trends thread. And yes he is Greek.
