I am dying to see the special order badge - it's my dream badge. Love the amethyst points... Please post it when it arrives.
My one and only is the plain jane gold scroll badge, which I love, but that amethyst point... some day!

I don't know from clasps, but these pins are lovely and your photography skills more than up to the task! Thanks for sharing--I do enjoy the history of these beautiful badges.

I love the detail of the (I don't know the right word) loop on top of the SK badge pendant. So pretty.

I gotta admit, I'm clasp illiterate but I love those old clasps on the back of the Sigma Kappa badges. What is that style called? Is it still available today? I'd much rather have that than fumble with the tiny little barrel clasps on my badges.
I think the loop on top of the pendant is called a vale. Or vail. I know how to say it but don't know how to spell it.

It's a knuckle clasp/whale tail spinner combo. Cool, huh?
Ask my BT friends, first thing I do with a badge is flip it over to inspect the back!
And the loop at the top is a bail. It's a term used to describe an oval/tear-drop/hoop shaped link at the top of a jewelry piece that allows it to be used as a pendant.

I've never seen an AOII badge with that type of clasp. I have several from that time period but they all have barrel clasps. The only different one is on my 1915 badge and it's still a barrel style just a little different. Why can't we have knuckle clasp/whale tail spinners, Maria? Why?!

Oh, for the love of Mike. You AOIIs, with your infinitesimal variety of style variations on your badge letters, your chasing, your rubies and pearls, all that real estate on the badge back for engraving, and you're whining about a clasp? Please. Just, please. I've SEEN your badges, you should be happy I don't hop in the car and drive up there and smack you.

I found this beautiful piece while looking through the completed auctions for a BIN AOII badge that sold yesterday. I never knew you could look through completed auctions. This Theta Chi badge from 1899 sold for over $1900, and I think a brother snagged it out from under a collector. The winner has less than 80 wins with only 2 fraternal collectible wins.
And for AzTheta:

OOOOOOOOOH! A t-bar, c-clasp! and check out the engraving. Hand lettered. Thanks for this. All is forgiven.

Glad I was able to entertain with the pin back photos of clasps. In other positive news, I posted my 3 rescues on facebook, and many sisters asked what "rescuing" was. When I explained several others were excited at the idea and hadn't ever thought of it. One of my pledge sisters shared that she has 2 rescued badges as well. Others are interested in rescuing as well. Maybe more of our SK badges will go home to sisters now

You should start a FB group. We have an AOII group. I just added 40 more members this morning!

Guess what? My APH (Washington DC--more like Bethesda/Rockville) is having a badge show and tell on September 7th! Anyone want to come and see a ton of NPC badges in person?
