Does anyone out there have a badge ring that isn't from HJGreek or another similar vendor? I have a rescued badge that I would like to turn into a ring, but I don't like the style available through HJ. I want something more along the lines of a solid band and not the splits on the one available. I am going to a jeweler later this week to see if they can create something, but if you don't have to re-invent the wheel...

^^^I don't have a badge ring, but I did order the SAI Founder's Ring one year with my christmas gift money. It was advertised as sterling silver so I paid just over $100 for it. It, in fact, is not sterling silver. They added nickel somewhere along the line because I break out terribly if I wear it for an extended period of time.
Of course, they won't admit to adding nickel. Yet, it's not stamped as sterling silver on the inside. I would have fought for a refund harder, but I actually wanted the ring. And, to get the refund, I had to send it back. I'll wear it on special days--not every day.
I wouldn't recommend HJ. Go to a reputable jeweler in your town and have it done. It may be pricey, but you'll know exactly what you're getting.

I wore the Alpha Gamma Delta Badge as a ring for a while but, honestly, the design isn't maid for it, IMHO. I was afraid I would knock the top pearl off. It wasn't until years later that I bought a no-pearls Badge but I still think the sharp edges are something to be mindful of.

^I know what you mean. I never wore my ring when I had to lift Buffy - I didn't want to scratch him.

One of my pledge sisters did exactly that. She went to a local jeweler with her badge and they went through catalogs together until she found just what she wanted (and what the jeweler thought would work well). She likes it much better than the ring through HJ because it doesn't sit as high as the HJ ring would--she was worried about snagging the HJ ring on things.
The only issue was that the badge is now permanently part of the ring, but she felt it was worth it. In fact, she ordered it in white gold from our EHQ for the ring, so she would still have "her" badge to wear and/or pass down.

So I went for the badge that I mentioned a few pages back--the one that was being sold by a sister on e b a y. I am SO glad I did! This is my FIRST badge for my collection (aside from my own badge that I was initiated with, of course!)
Here it is:
It's white gold from the Alpha Kappa chapter at Kansas State and is from 2005.
Now a few weird things about the badge/sale...First of all, I asked if there was an inscription on the back. She said there wasn't, which I thought was odd. It was only when she finally went to ship to me that she noticed that there was an inscription and sent me a note about it.
Also, she used a stock photo of the plain badge but the listing said this badge had a pearl on the left side. I thought this was very odd, because we only have a 3 pearl, 15 pearl or vintage 20 pearl options. So I asked her that question and she said "it's the 3 pearl badge". I dunno WHAT she was talking about because there is clearly one pearl! LOL I'm not gonna complain though--the 3 pearls isn't what sold me...I just wanted to rescue a badge that was actually in my price range!
The pearl that's attached is a "scholarship pearl". You get it for earning certain grades--although I'll admit that I don't know what that requirement is.
I am no longer feeling guilty at all about this because the fact that this sister knew so little about her badge just goes to show how much she cared for it. I am happy that it is now in good hands!

Congratulations! That is a lovely badge - white gold! woohoo!!! pretty. An interesting way to attach a scholarship pearl - looks like the original owner never bought a chapter guard (I've seen scholarship pearls attached to the chain that leads to the chapter guard).
Whatever! doesn't matter, because you're so happy and you did great. Thanks for sharing.
@katydidKD - that's a cool badge holder. Maybe you can post another photo that's a little clearer? I like your badge, a lot.

I admit it, I have been semi-hysterical inside because I couldn't find my "gao-o-pins" from my move. I found it today! Once I get it organiized, I'll be posting it on the other site. YIPPPEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! I will try to get a clear shot. Also, I forgot to add HJGreek was AMAZING about fixing the clasp from my vintage '42 "that site' rescue. They didn't charge me!!! They replaced it too, it is perfect and like new!! Moreover, they also really cleaned it, it sparkles like it is brand new now! They only thing I paid for was shipping it to them, and they shipped it back to me with the new badge!

lledUC Thank you for posting this picture - I was thrilled to see it because I could not find a picture in one of the old Miami yearbooks. How did you know it was from this group - do you know anything else about Phi Tau? I had thought that the group merged with DDD very soon after DZ merged with Phi Tau but the Miami school paper shows that DZ founders (who confired on the merger of the 2 locals under the name Phi Tau) chose to reestablish DZ as a separate sorority maybe a couple of years before the merger. Again, thank you for posting this picture of the Phi Tau badge.

I've only seen the scholarship pearl with a chapter guard as well, so I thought that was pretty interesting too!
And katydid, use the "Macro" setting on your camera. It will allow you to take a non-blurry picture. I'm sure all cameras have this option these days...and from my picture, you can see that even my phone has that option!
