Yeah, I thought it was pretty crazy that he was talking so much smack about her hot Columbian temper, yet HE was the one that flew off the handle.

Which meathead guy? I can think of a couple of guys that seem meatheadish.

LOL. Right after he said on camera that he doesn't know if they're any closer to marriage.

What did people think of the immediate elimination? When Phil announced it, I thought "I don't like this idea." But when the two teams at the end were the two that I could already tell were going to get on my nerves fast, I thought, "okay, I can live with this."

I don't get the poker girls lying about what they do. This ain't Survivor or Big Brother. One or two legs into the game and already their "secret" is getting out. But if you're going to lie about it, at least make it a lie that's easier to keep up throughout the race.

Meanwhile, my wife and I found it interesting that poker girls weren't liking Zev and Justin that much. We couldn't help but wonder if it's because as poker players, they make a living "reading" other people, and with his Asperger's, Zev may be really hard for them to read. (Meanwhile, I loved that Zev said he just wasn't getting a "help homeless people vibe" from poker girls. Heh.)

My guess is the obnoxious lawyer, Lance. He needs to tone it down, oh I don't know, about 539 notches! Also, how many times could he tell us that he was a lawyer? Geez. I got total douche-bag feelings from him.

I have said it in TAR threads before, but I just don't get those "we are trying to decide if we are right for each other" couples that need to go around the world to find the answer. That couple has been dating on and off for SEVEN years. Methinks that you should know good and well by now.

Well, I forgot to set the DVR, so I missed the first part of the show. I didn't start watching until the poker girls were looking for their lost tourists, and I had the TAR website up to help me keep the contestants straight. I was so confused why I was never seeing that yoga couple! Once I figured out that there must have been a super early elimination I was feeling really bad for them. How awful to get so excited about this opportunity, get all ready for it, and not even make it to the airport.

It wasn't until the next day that I watched the first part of the show online, and yeah, my thoughts were the same as yours. Both of those teams are completely obnoxious. It was also really funny to watch the contestants be interviewed prior to the show. YogaGuy was uber-confident about making it until the end. Made me giggle knowing that he was about to have the shortest stay in TAR history!

I sort of understand. There have been teams in the past that have been willing to throw others a bone and work together. There have also been instances where contestants have been resentful of a team that is perceived to already be "rich," as if that makes them less deserving of winning. They just wanted to start on a level playing field. I do agree with you, though, that the lie should have been a little more thought out. They should also know that people in airports will have a tendency to recognize them.

Interesting thought. I do like Zev... I find him very funny.

All in all, it should shape up to be a decent season. They are villians, there are likeables, and there are entertaining contestants. My early favorites are the globetrotters, Zev and Justin, and Sam and Dan. I actually like the poker players too... I find them to be very funny.

By meathead, I do mean the meathead lawyer, yes.

I would think that Zev would be extremely easy to "read" actually. It's not as though he is super skilled at masking his emotions here. The poker girls most likely don't like him, because they were picking up on his vibes / energy whatever that he, in turn, does not like them.

Yes, but in my experience, it is not uncommon for people with Asperger's to be hard to read. Because the subtleties of facial and voice expression are often lost on them, they don't exhibit those subtleties, which can actually make it a little challenging to figure out exactly how to interpret what they're saying. On top of that, for someone used to reading poker players, someone with Asperger's can almost be so straightforward that you figure it can't be for real. Kind of ironic.

Was it just me or did anyone else catch Miss America's thong during the herding of the geese?

I don't know if I have any favorites yet, but it'll be interesting to see Zev and Justin compete.

My son has Asperger's Syndrome. They are very hard to read since their expressions do not necessarily fit what they are thinking or feeling. May play to Zev's advantage since they already think he is "off" and unaware that he seems to be able to read them better than they can read him

This is now going into my personal idiom file.

I love wasabi. I don't think I'd love that MUCH wasabi.

I agree with everyone's impressions so far -- I like Zev's team and my very favorite right now is the Harlem Globetrotter team -- those guys crack me up. I'm entertained by the poker players only because I am certain they will implode at some point. That one girl that had to EAT THE WASABI!!! and was sniping at her partner at the first train stop is going to crack, I just know it.

I was gunning for the meathead lawyer to not make the license plate cut -- though the yoga instructor was a meathead himself, I think he would at least have been entertaining. The lawyer is just irritating.

And thanks to whoever posted the followup that the 1st eliminated couple got engaged --- I give it 3 months.

Should be a fun season! And don't worry, MC, I may not catch all of the shows right when they're on, but I'll make sure to catch up sometime during the week and check in! I gotchyer back, pardner!

I don't think I knew that. Mine too. How old is your son?

My wife and I are particularly interested in that aspect of this season.

And there was great rejoicing!!! YAY!!!

I was so hoping he'd be the one booted this past episode. Every time he was on, I kept having Bon Qui Qui moments: "SECURITY! This dude needs to go. He needs to go."

And we've got each other's backs, pardner.

That lawyer guy and his screechy partner have to go. I absolutely cannot stand them, their obnoxious voices, their bad attitudes, their sniping at each other, etc. etc. etc.

I LOVE the Globetrotters and am so glad they are doing so well racing. They seem to have the right mix of athleticism (obviously) and smarts, plus, they know when to ask the locals for help, and how to do so without sounding like American A-holes.

Go Globetrotters!!!

I never really watch TAR. I usually don't even know it's on until 3/4 of the way through a season. But I did catch half of last weeks episode, and the guy and girl (sorry, I don't know names!) who got their clue out of the dragon's mouth and didn't realize it was the clue... priceless!
