So last night I am hanging with my friends at Bar Louie. Two young ladies come over to the table and start talking to us. One explains that it's her friend's birthday. We politely remark happy birthday. The woman then proceeds to say, "since it's her birthday you should buy her her drink."
I tell her we respectfully will not. She suggests a gentleman would do so. I correct her and say "the act of a gentleman would be one of us offering to buy your friends drink of our own cognizance. You asking to buy your drink simply obliges one of us to do so. Furthermore, it tells me that your only purpose for coming over was to get your drink paid for which is your right but not our obligation to accommodate." Needless to say, she looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
Her friend wanting no part of the gold digger association said "please excuse my friend, I can pay for my own drinks". I looked at her, smiled, and said " I have no doubt that you can." I turned back to her friend and said, I appreciate that you put on your low cut (I drink for free) uniform, but I don't recognize your standing armies nor do I salute your officers.
She then asked what do you do for a living? I said I'm a University professor. Shen then asked where and what do you teach? "Fisk University and Physics". The funky look on her face as she walked away was priceless.
My validation was her server walked up to me and said " you know that woman told me they were going to come over and get you to buy their drinks". I responded, "I just schooled one of them on how a confident gentleman thinks......I didn't even charge them tuition." #trysomebodyyoungerwithlowselfeseem.
