I'm about halfway through The Meaning of Matthew: My Son's Murder in Laramie, and a World Transformed by Judy Shepard.
Honestly, it's dragging so far. But, I just got to the murder, so we'll see how it goes from here.
ETA: I think this Amazon review sums up how I feel thus far:
Quote:
Regrettably, Ms. Shepherd's editor(s) did her no favors, failing to edit out the abundance of cliches and stiff writing.
The book did not live up to its title... the Meaning of Matthew was more like the Meaning of Mom - pre-Matthew, away from Matthew, and post-Matthew.

Just finished "Life of Pi" and "Big Girl Small". Both were excellent! I highly recommend both.

Bought Fifty Shades of Grey today at Costco. Figured it would be good for a summer read, from what I know of it.

I'm currently reading The Crown by Joanna Stafford. It started off a little slow, but is getting much better now.

I read in spurts. Just had one.
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak - truly amazing, soul gripping book.
Divergent, and then Insurgent - Veronica Roth. Loved both of these.
Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen - Susan Gregg Gilmore. Some poignant moments. Overall, very well done.

I recently read "Sorority Sisters' by Claudia Welch. I thought it would be bad and stereotypical, but it was actually really good. Part of it focused on college, but a lot of it focused on the bonds of sisterhood after graduation. Maybe the reason it felt more real was because the author herself is a sorority woman and truly understands what Greek Life is really like.
I've passed my copy onto my mother who's currently loving it (especially since the characters were in college around the same time that she was). I plan on passing it on to other greeks in my family as well.

The Cross in the Closet.
I just started reading this tonight. I'm really enjoying it so far. Makes me sad that there are so many un-compassionate Christians out there though....

The Warmth of Other Suns
http://isabelwilkerson.com/
I'm reading The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration (2010)by Isabel Wilkerson. It is the story of the migration of African Americans from the south to northern and western cities starting in the World War I era through the mid 1970's. The book traces the lives of three African Americans who migrated during this period, weaving the story lines with the socio-political movements of the time.
Highly Recommend!!!!!

^^^^^
got about 1/2 way through wilkerson's book. it was interesting but just didn't read like a novel. i wasn't in the mood to read research.
just finished Freeman by Leonard Pitts, Jr. and am slowly working my way through A Feast for Crows... i don't know what the deal is with this book. I was able to (reasonably) zip through the others but this one is just not moving me.
