Revolutionary Road

Has anyone else seen it yet? What was your opinion?

I admit, I had to check out one scene in the book, to see if I misunderstood part of it. I didn't.

Going this afternoon with a bunch of sisters -- definitely excited to see it.

Saw it... I thought it was slow at the beginning, but it picked up. I liked it, I found the acting and the direction was well done. The script was not as smooth, or the editing, it is hard to tell which one for this film.

I saw it a couple weeks ago, I posted what I thought in the "what do you feel like saying" thread.

I really didn't want to see it based on knowing nothing about it, and the fact that movies are 12 dollars.

The movie is kinda dark yall. Indie-flick-like. Kinda had an "American Beauty" feel-another "weird ish goes down in the suburbs" movie. And the last 10 minutes grossed me out. I usually have an iron-cast stomach, and a sense of humor, but aside from crazy guy, I wasn't amused by the movie. I left grossed out, a little bothered, and definitely depressed. I kinda can't fall asleep. And I rarely cry at movies, but this one definitely had me teary-eyed. Out of it being depressing, not out of sadness or joy.

Kate Winslet, I will say, did play that role well. I think any actress couldve played it, but she did it justice. I wasn't even checking for Leo by the end.

It's so not like Titanic. But there is a similar "let's do it in the car with a hand against the window" scene, for what it's worth.

You & I had the same feeling, then. And I liked American Beauty! We heard people talking Oscar on the way out, but I think Sam Mendes can only pull that rabbit out the hat in the same genre once.

I was terribly disappointed.

Definitely not my kind of film. While the filming was impeccably done and the actors played the roles fantastically, I just didn't enjoy the movie. It dragged on and on and it was so far off from what I expected.

Save your movie and wait for the video.

I don't need or want to see this film. I know what's it is about and how it ends. Not my type of movie AT ALL. I don't pay for the movies to make me feel worse than when I went in. I prefer escapist junk.

So, while I will ALWAYS root for Kate Winslet to win an Oscar, I don't think I will see this ever.

After reading everyone's posts, I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to this movie a lot, although I don't like American Beauty-ish movies. I really wanted to see Kate and Leo reunited on screen.

Guess I'll wait till the DVD comes out.

A friend of mine developed the "noose" system of movie reviews. Instead of stars, he gives nooses depending on just how depressing or nihilistic a movie is.

This one sounds like a 3 nooser.

My husband and I went to see Benjamin Buttons and the preview for Revolutionary Road came on, and frankly, it was so depressing, and made marriage look like a major DRAG -

I also want to feel good when I leave a movie, or I want to be moved by poignancy, I don't want to be depressed about life and marriage after I walk out! Life's too short!!

This is just Kate's style of movie lately. I love her movies, and will see this one. I'm used to her never playing happy characters, though; she always plays a tragic character. Even in Finding Neverland, which was an inspiring movie, she died. Did anyone see Little Children? That was a great movie, but very sad and depressing.

This one's on the top of my list, along with Milk and Slumdog Millionaire.

OH - and she was in "Jude". I did my master's thesis on Thomas Hardy - the ultimate "nooser" is "Jude the Obscure"!

i watched RR last week...while the acting was excellent, and i adore Kate and Leo, it was a downer...it made me rethink a LOT of things, and i hated that!

I heard Slumdog Millionaire was awesome but I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet.

I wanted to see Revolutionary Road but I'm not sure I'm in the mood for a depressing movie so perhaps I'll wait until it comes out on video or something.
