So I guess you're left with fire halls?
Oddly enough, I don't think I would mind a fire hall reception. All the ones I've been to have been super fun. If you can tap your own keg at the reception, you know it'll be a good time.

HA.
We don't have any fire halls (at least not that I know of), but there are a couple of those VFW multi-purpose room type things (I think it's the same concept) around here. But those are probably booked too (esp. at the cheap rental prices they have).
I think this is one of those things where it's time to look at expectations vs. what's avaliable. I don't think she wants a "fire hall" type wedding, you know, because people who WIN AT LIFE just don't have that, lol.

VFW does not qualify as fire hall.
My brother's reception was at the VF and I think (personally) it was nicer than the country club wedding I went to the month before.
But our VFW is awesome in my hometown. So I guess it depends on the facilities.
Yes, I am a social member of the VFW, LOL.

Yeah, country clubs are way out of the question here anyway. They're VERY booked.

Also sort of Southern cliche.

What about the (nationality) clubs? We have a Polish, Italian, Cape Verde, etc. clubs around here. One of the local Chinese restaurants has rooms available for rent (did that for a suprise b-day bash and it was fabulous) and the local Indian one does too. I'm not really sure where you live, so I'm just throwing out ideas.

Isn't he military? What about the NCO Club?
There are always a ton of nice event spaces; many are out of the box, so they're usually available. Garden clubs? Any non-profits with local offices? Sometimes they have nice conference centers.
Is she open to getting married on a Sunday?

In Erie there was a Junior League building that sometimes let people in for weddings.
What about historical societies?

FYI: She's set on a Saturday so that limits things also.
The timeframe makes it really hard because even "out of the box" places are booked up with other events at this point.

You're a much better cousin than I am. I would've thrown in the towel a while ago.

Yeah, I try lol. Event planning is something I enjoy though (it's something I'd do if later in life I ever wanted to switch careers).
I would personally just push the date to NEXT May (2010), but she's not probably not having it b/c she wants to get married as soon as the fiance gets home (which is in April).
NCO Club is not an option, as we aren't near a base.

Is she open to a Sat morning or afternoon wedding or does she have to have a Sat. evening? Many places will book 2 weddings in the same day.
How many people is she hoping to invite to this shindig? We were just at a lovely reception at a restaurant, but there were less than 20 people invited.

I'm exhausted. Dress shopping with WAL today = fail.
We went to 3 stores. Yes, they all had clearance gowns and samples they were selling, but she didn't like any of those or thought they looked cheap (lol). Of course, it's when you're on a budget that you don't like anything that's in your price range. I think she'll end up going the internet route for one.

Have I mentioned that my brother is getting March 6th and hasn't told me yet? He told my dad, who told me, but my dad isn't sure that he was supposed to tell me so I'm not allowed to say anything to anybody who knows my brother.
And you wonder why I made poor choices in marriage? LOL My family is so messed up. The only sane one (my mother) passed away and left me alone to deal with these men.
