Its not silver it is white gold, silver would tarnish and it is too small to polish well (especially if it has pearls, which react badly to polish).
Alpha Chi Omega only allows pearls and diamonds with the exception of antique pins purchased before the standard was set and pins specific to the office of the chapter and national president which are larger and contain rubies. They are passed down from person to person. They now offer and all diamond version as well as an antique style. The basic three pearl version is the cheapest option available.
Vintage all diamond version
I would love to see a trend of easily removable guard chains. Sometimes, at alumnae events, I like to wear all my other pins without the guard and sometimes at collegian functions I wear it with the guard but it is sooooo hard to take off and replace it. Most of the time I use my NM stickpin to hold my dangles. The west coast guard trend is not to wear them but if you do they are always the really simple version.

I just made my first badge rescue off THAT site! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!
(btw, there is a beautiful old 1929 tri-sigma badge on there right now with an interesting guard, only it's listed as an "epsilon epsilon epsilon" badge and it's crazy cheap, only $42 including shipping!)

Oh my gosh IrishLake I got your message and went to the site JUST as the bidding ended. I could cry! That is EXACTLY the badge I've been wanting forever and it was so historic and beautiful. The guard is the symbol of our circle degree of membership, or for alumnae sisters. Here's a picture of the badge, but from the bidder's history it looks like it went to a collector. I could spit.
I actually have money right now too and could have bought it. Oh well. I'm just hoping it went to a sister.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could cry for you right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't think it would sell, no one had bid on it at 10 minutes left. I am kicking myself for not putting in a bid!!!!!! My little girl started fussing right around then, so I took her for a bath. I only would have done the minimum though, and the collector would have prolly outbid me.

These badges are lovely.
I have a question. In the basic, three-pearl version, the letters appear equally spaced. In the other versions, the Omega appears squished. Is that simply a function of camera angle (I'ver seen an AChiO badge "in person").

I love seeing the other Sigma badges that have been posted lately! I was so excited when my custom guard arrived today. I picked amethyst and diamonds for 3 reasons. 1-I loved the look it would give/personalized touch, purple & white are our colors and because "Diamond is forever"...just like my promise, chapter and Sigma. The photos don't do it any justice!

Oh! And I got my rescue in the mail tonight! It's beautiful. It feels more delicate than my original badge. The clasp is a little loose, so I will either have to make sure I get a guard and have hubby's uncle (a jeweler) see if he can fix it. The writing is smaller and more dainty. The face of the rescue is convex as well, where as mine is pretty much flat. The finish on the gold is different for both as well.
I love it!

My daughter's badge. She's worn it twice and a pearl has fallen out already.

That's quality craftsmanship for you. Post it on their FB page and complain. It gets their attention quicker. No one likes bad publicity.
