Thumbs down Oh yay...more propaganda!

Tomorrow at 10 PM eastern, A & E is having an "Investigative Reports" on "hazing and binge drinking." It might not be entirely anti-Greek but don't hold your breath.

Why can't A & E just stick to covering polygamy & the Mafia? (or, polygamy in the Mafia )

Well, I fell asleep watching it. It opened with Omega Psi Phi - some guy from Lousiville (right?) who won a lot of money from the frat for a hazing lawsuit. Then it moved on to sports teams, but I fell asleep. Boring. However, the announcers dramatic voice over was amusing.

Wink

I'm glad I didn't miss anything - I was too exhausted to watch last night. Gotta love Bill Curtis. He can make buying toothpaste sound like a dramatic event.

I forgot it was comming on and flipped to it by mistake. There I saw the Omega Psi Phi story. The guy who sued the frat was being reffered to as a member and the announcer kept saying "his fraternity" and "his national organization". The question may seem stupid, but can you still be a member of the organization if you sue on grounds of hazing?

I understood that if you were caught hazing OR being hazed, you would not be allowwed to belong to an NPHC fraternity/sorority. Could the announcer have simply been making semantical (is that a word?) errors?

I believe that if you are a member, you can't, under any circumstances, have your membership taken away. In cases like this, I believe that people just denounce themselves from the organization, but they technically will be members for life. Anyone else know for sure?

for Alpha Kappa Alpha, a person can be expelled from our organization for violating our rules. if a person is hazed/is hazing, for example, than they could be barred from joining or put out. can a person who sued XYZ sorority/fraternity for hazing still be allowed in? i'm not sure about that one.

If you were hazed and felt violated to the point that you had to take legal action, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE APART OF THAT ORGANIZATION? It just boogles my mind.

But even better..If you feel that you are being violated, that it is being taken far beyond "tradition" or "the fostering of unit", why not just leave. Why ruin the chances of the others who were/are on "line" with you? That's what I don't understand!

In 90% of the cases, people know wheather or not the chapter hazes (regardless of what the rules say). But no one makes you pledge underground!!! That is a choice that one makes on his/her own. You can walk away anytime!
