So thus far my local has a constitution, do we need a charter , what is charter? I feel like im asking alot of questions about things i should know but dont .... sorry!
A charter is a grant from a superior organization, such as a National or International, granting you the authority to operate as a chapter of the organization. As a local you don't need a charter.

I don't think you need a charter for a local fraternity, but if so it's just an official document that says all the members name and a statement and what not.
Actually... You MIGHT need a charter. At my college, all social Greek organizations are local in nature. Here, charters are granted by the college's board of trustees and allow a Greek group an official presence on campus. There may be other forms you need to submit to your college's student life office and/or Greek life office for official recognition- check with them and see.
