As a military retiree, "recruitment" has only military connotations for me and it is RARE when I use that term, if ever! I am old school too -- no matter how much I support NPC -- I still say Rush, rushee, pledge...and yes, even suicide

Guess it's hard to teach an old dog like me new tricks....sorry...

As I see it, the change of NPC terminology is an attempt to seem more PC to those outside the Greek community....kinda like the Miss America Beauty Pageant's metamorphosis over the past few years into a SCHOLARSHIP pageant!!!! Yeah right! I thank god I did not have to wear a swimsuit and strut down a runway to win the scholarships I had at Southern Cal!!

All this changing of terms just annoys me!!!

In SAI, we have Members-in-Training, not Pledges. We just call them MITs. I was in the last pledge class to be called pledges before they changed it (I pledged Spring 2001).

Luckily it's still called Rush for us. But I HATE THE TERM MIT. I never saw the term "pledge" as a bad thing; I thought it was an honor to say I was pledging my loyalty to the group.

This makes me think of the movie Meatballs..."we are the CIT's, so pity us..." You could sing it w/ MITs instead.
