Gatordeltapgh,
How much trouble would I be in if I had my badge modified with either rubies or emeralds?

Probably big trouble
Ruby badges are now worn by collegiate chapter presidents. They are a replica of one of Bertha'a badges. My chapter (Delta) still wears a vintage emerald badge from the early 1900's, possibly before we went to the ruby badge for CPs.
It is terrifying because if the badge is lost or stolen, it is irreplaceable. I wish they'd send that badge to HQ and get a replica. I know of three chapters who had their historical CP badge stolen. I only know of one that was recovered. So sad!

We got exciting news!
On badge day, Phi Sigma Sigma announced the first silver/white gold badge! It's our full jeweled badge, so the pyramid shaped badge with the sphinx head in the middle, with the sapphire eyes and three sapphires at each point! I am not the bigges fan of the full jeweled because its big, but boy do I want one! It's only available THIS YEAR for our centennial!
Our Grand Archon (National President) posted her badge (passed down) and its beautiful. I'll post a pic of both when I'm on my computer, but hers has the outside of the pyramid lined with alternating diamonds and sapphires!
I love badges! I was one of two sisters in my TBS chapter to actually own a badge. We have recognition pins as standard in TBS, I believe due to cost, but our badge is beautiful. I will post that too!

I wish I wasn't so terrible at taking pictures, cause I'd love to post a picture of my badge. I went all out and got a white gold quill with alternating pearls and pink sapphires along the stem and just recently got a chased, white gold chapter guard to go with it. I figured since it's a lifetime investment, I might as well do it right.

I wasn't sure if someone had posted this already or not, but it's a Gamma Phi badge from 1885. I think I remember reading that it was the oldest badge at headquarters? Anyway, it's really beautiful and I love the crescent moon in white.

Here's one on display at IH that's just a little older (1882).

You can tell how old it is by all the links in the chain. It's beautiful!

Twelve links are used now...one for each founder, but I'm not sure when that was adopted. That is a beautiful badge!
