My sixth grade teacher was from Louisiana, and we learned the Greek alphabet both forwards and backwards. I would just love to know which sorority she was in! We learned the Greek alphabet to two different songs. On Bid Night, I shocked the sisters by already knowing the alphabet!

High school math and science, people... didn't anybody else use a lowercase "mu" in those classes? "Mew" is definitely the standard pronunciation.

Honeychile, while I was in school, I had an LC that moved to LA but I don't think she taught 6th grade. She's now got a PHD in counseling, I think.

For writing it, try this: ( I can't get the greek letters to work, but write them out in rows of four like this

ABGD Alpha Beta Gamma Delta
EZHQ E-Z HO
I
KLM I KAM
NXOP NEON (the E is a stretch with the xi, but it works)
RSTU PETY
F
CYW Phi Chi Psi Omega

So you can remember how they look that way for the order, too

Learn with a matchbook.

Lightbulb

I leaned from this:

I went shopping at Alpha Beta Gamma and met Delta, Epsilon, Zeta while there. To my surprise I ran into Eta, Theta and Iota doing some shopping of their own. Kappa and Lambda came to assist with all the groceries and could not resist those delightful sisters that go by the name of Mu and Nu.

The sisters loaded up their cars and headed for the meeting at Xi, Omicron and Pi's home. A social was to be given for their new found friends of Rho, Sigma and Tau. But, to the sisters' surprise they would not remain if their sisters from across the Bay in Upsilon did not come along. They did come forth after picking up friends in Phi and Chi around the corner from Psi and down the street from Omega.

It's correct if you are using the Greek pronunciation and interested in speaking Greek. Anglicized pronunciation is widely accepted with GLOs, though some groups, like Alpha Phi and Alpha Xi Delta opt to use the Greek pronunciation. Both are fine.

We were taught the greek alphabet as a song when we were pledges (just like kindergarteners learn the ABCs w/a song). I guess I assumed everyone learned it that way (like there's "one" greek alphabet song the way there's "one" ABC song), woops, I guess not! I remember very few songs off the top of my head, but I can still sing that greek alphabet song as I bet almost all of my chapter sisters could.

has anyone seen the butterfly effect? theres a scene in there where ashton kutcher spits off the greek alphabet really fast. They way i learned the greek alphabet was trying to mimic that and go as fast as i could. at first i could only get as far as alpha beta gamma delta. then eventually i would progress a few letters farther. but now i can do the whole thin in like 7 seconds. still can't play the match game with out getting burned though.

I learned it via a song and fall into that if I'm not trying to say it quickly, but by now I can spit it out as fast as I want. I was never "tested" with a match but I tried it for fun and I can get it out twice before I wave it out. Then again I like playing with fire.
