I need to catch up on this show!
H and I did the ancestry DNA kits...has anyone else ever done this? I found a second cousin that I had never met (to my knowledge) on ancestry this way.

We had to get a new Dish unit so it deleted the ones I'd DVRed. Boo! Will have to set it up again.
Has anyone seen this show? http://www.pbs.org/weta/finding-your-roots/
I did the Ancestry DNA test but it was sort of a bummer that they can get more specific with male DNA vs. women's. It's still very cool and it works with your family tree if you've already done that on the site.

I like that show. The Morgan Freeman episode was very interesting. He has donated quite a bit of money to the Choctaw Nation museum, and it turns out he doesn't have any Choctaw ancestry...he said maybe he should apologize to them! Prof. Gates said it is common for African Americans to believe they have Native American ancestors, but very few do. He further explored that misconception, which was quite interesting.
Also interesting was his own DNA analysis, when he revealed that he is a descendant of a medieval Irish King (he was drinking Guiness in an Irish pub with a distant relative).

I love these shows. I want to do the DNA test, but I'm a bit afraid of my DNA used for nefarious reasons. Yeah, I can be that paranoid!

Did Gates ever work at the National Archives? I'm trying to remember the name of the gentleman who worked there, and came to speak at the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society. He was EXCELLENT!! Henry Louis Gates, Jr, sounds like the right name, and would be about the right age. Hmmm...

I did. It was really interesting to see who she was connected to. Especially during the slavery period in Texas.

Last week, I watched 3 episodes of a pretty new TLC show about adoptees tracking down their birth mothers. I heart that show.
AFAIK, DNA will just tell you percentages of of your racial ancestry. How do they connect it to actual people? Through their own records of DNA tests? And hasn't ancestry.com gobbled up just about every other genealogical site on the Web? This concerns me a bit. I might not want my ancestry as publicly accessible info.
