Thinking of re-charting or starting a new sorority on campus...advice?

Okay, I need some advice...when i originally went through rush, there had been talk of starting a jewish sorority. There aren't THAT many jewish girls on campus, but for what its worth, there are a few. So far there are 6 of us that are willing to put in the leg work to try and work something out...but I need some advice. Upon doing research, AEPhi had been on this campus before I believe but we were talking about starting up an SDT chapter....any advice on how to approach this idea or anything? What goes into it? Let me know how to approach this, it could be a great thing for this school to have a little more diversity. The chapters here are so HUGE and I think it is a great idea. The AEPi chapter here is in full support of it, so we have some people to back us up, and I have the fraternity vote of a bunch of my friends that are more than willing to support us also. So any advice would be greatly appriciated! Thanks a ton

Love and Roses

I'd talk to your Greek Life advisor to let him/her know that there is interest in forming a new group on campus. If Panhellenic is not ready to expand, maybe see if you can form a local group with the intent of joining a non-sectarian or Jewish interest national sorority.

I have seen this question before and most people recommend the Rush at UCSC thread. I don't know a link but if you search for it... i'm sure it will be helpful.

The Rush at UCSC thread is here.

I've never tackled it personally, but I know where it is!

Question

Are there any strictly any Jewish Soroitys?

no.

Why, because they found that basically they could not stand life and growing. So for a better word, they became intergrated.

That is the problem, you have to have enough people to grow with. That is the key. If you do not, then you never get off of the ground and if you do, then you may die on the vine.

Key is growth, nothing else.

Hey sis!

Since I'm not in an NPC sorority I am of limited help. But from reading threads on here, I *believe* that a few things must happen. First, all the houses at your college must be at quota (am I right, or somewhat right?)...there must be a need for a new NPC. In addition, AEPhi, SDT or any other Jewish sorority also must be interested in chartering there.

I would talk to your Greek Affairs office as others have suggested. They could offer you the most help. Then I would try contacting SDT/AEPhi.

Either way, I'm pretty sure that to get a chapter of an NPC, you usually form a local first with an intent to affiliate. Why not working on plans for a local Jewish sorority then? If worse comes to worse and you don't end up affiliating with a Jewish NPC, you would still have the Jewish sisterhood you feel the need for.

Hope this helps, hon. Let us know if there's any updates!

Love & roses!
