It is mainly the older pins that have the chapter designation on the Trident. I haven't seen a newer pin with the chapter designation on it (unless it was added by the member later on). And I know you cannot order your trident with your chapter designation on it. I am not sure why it was phased out. I personally like the idea. Maybe we can bring back the trend.

That must be why I've seen them...all of them have been older members and older badges on ebay It's a shame you can't get them like that anymore. They are sooooo cute!

I agree. Since there is so little that we can do to customize our badges, it would be nice to at least be able to designate our chapter on the badge, and the short trident isn't as awkward to wear as the full length trident can sometimes be.

But the full length trident is so elegant!

Random side note - I'm going to a panhellenic scholarship luncheon next month, and I am terribly hoping that the ladies are wearing their badges!! But on the other hand, I wonder how creepy I will seem if I'm wandering around oogling everyone's chests.
As a teaser, while I don't think I'll be able to get the pictures before convention (end of June), I've asked a couple of my sisters if I may take pictures of their badges to post. There's a custom made badge from many years ago with a crest guard, and an international president's badge with the white crescent and diamonds. Should be quite drool-worthy!!

Oh please do not think that I don't like the trident guard. I absolutely love it, but at about 2-3 in. long, it can get in the way sometimes when you wear it. But I wouldn't trade it, except for maybe a crest guard .

Oh no, I know, I know....you can tell by the fact that the older ones have multiple bends that they must be difficult to use! But like anything worth having...
Really, I think the trident is the most intriguing part of your badge!

I think I need intervention. I get so excited when I find a photo of a unique badge. I stumbled across this Pike badge this morning (on left). What immediately caught my attention is the lack of white enamel. The badge on the right is from 1913 for comparison. Anyone have history about the badge on the left? I'm wondering if the original badges were minus the white enamel?

OMG... WANT!!! I do, though, prefer the less ornate Philomathean badge we usually see, which was the badge of Mary Ann DuPont Lines, one of our founders...
This picture is of a replica Philomathean badge EO made several years ago... I got it from my mom, so I don't know if it was available to everyone or if it was just for officers/advisers/that sort of position holder within the Fraternity. This one is about an inch wide--already much larger than our current badge--but if memory serves me correctly, the original is much larger, probably 2 inches wide, if not more.

ita! There is just something about it. It takes the whole badge up to another level.

I think this is actually an I.C. Sorosis badge. Look at the feathers (or whatever you call that part of the arrow ) It says I C, not Pi Beta Phi!

Correct, that's an I.C. Sorosis badge. One sold on eBay (within the last six months or so) for, I believe, $5999 or thereabouts (that was the starting price). Buyers' identity was not disclosed ("private listing").

I can remember when this was on ebay. I was feeling pretty confident about it, and then it was pulled from auction! I once heard how few of these were made, but I would probably do something drastic to get one!
And I agree about the Alpha Phi New Member badges - the old style is much nicer.
