U. Massachusetts-Amherst Closes 2 Fraternities

The U. of Massachusetts-Amherst has closed Sigma Alpha Mu as well as a local, Alpha Tau Gamma. Both had failed to meet fire and safety regulations of the city of Amherst. The vice chancellor of student affairs has said that more fraternity suspensions may come soon.

Now, it makes sense to me to close a house if it's not up to code, but it sure doesn't make sense to close a whole chapter for that reason. You "condemn" the house until they make corrections and you don't let anybody live there. Not allowing a chapter to exist, when many of it's members probably don't live in the house anyway makes no sense at all.

Sure does. And there probably is more to it. I hope the other chapters there take note and take action.

I was worried about this post.

There was a Local who We at LXA were courting who were living in the Old LXA House.

I have a Year Book from 1941 which is actually older than Me but not much It is the same House. U. Mass Amhearst is a tough School on Greeks and dont really know why unless they have done it to themselves as some have done.
