Question Sororities as Arizona State?

I've been wanting to be in a sorority since I was 15. I've never been super outgoing (I'm a little shy and withdrawn at times), and I don't drink or smoke (I'm basically the type who likes dressing up and going out, but not getting wasted). The sorority girls I have met seem to be very into drinking and partying (Partying in the sense of going out every night and sleeping with different guys - again, I'm not into that.)

I like the thought of being in a sisterhood and having a close bond, as well as having other people who have the same morals and supporting the same beliefs (Much as through charity events and volunteer work) plus I'm hoping to branch out a little and learn to get out of my shy stage (I've always gotten asked if I was a cheerleader when I would meet someone while in high school, and it always came down to "I'm way too shy to be a cheerleader". - I really think getting out of my shell and becoming apart of something (Such as a sorority) will help me grow as a person.

I'm going to be going to ASU, and while I have looked into what sororities the school has, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the chapters that were on the campus? (Such as the stereotypes)

Thank you for any information you have on the ASU sororities, it means a lot! (Even if I may not be right, or not outgoing enough for the Greek life, I'm still interested in looking into it)

We don't discuss stereotypes on GC. Eash organization at ASU is awesome and offers something different (but still a sisterhood). Go into recruitment with an open mind and open heart, and do not take any "stereotypes" you hear of too seriously.

Sorry, I didn't know!

And thank you, I'll be sure to keep an open mind when going through rush!

It's ok that you didn't know. You're a future Potential New Member (PNM) so you're here to learn. Recruitment is always a mutual selection. You might think you belong to the Awesome Alphas based on "stereotypes", but they might not feel the same. The Glamorous Gammas might absolutely love you though.

Paging AXOrushadvisor! And ASUADPi! any other S(c)um Devils on the boards???

I only know the UofA. Sorry you are going to ASU. Not too late to change your mind, is it? NAU is really great... but Tempe... seriously?

All joking aside, don't worry about stereotypes; read adpiucf's most excellent thread on recruitment (it's linked in her signature).

007May, your introduction touched my heart because I, too, was very shy when I went through recruitment, and certainly not a big partier.

Learn as much as you can about the recruitment process itself (adpiucf's link above is excellent!) and, as IrishLake says, keep an "open mind and open heart." And turn off any "tent talk" or discussions of stereotypes.

Best of luck in finding your letters!

I went to ASU, however my sorority, while an associate Pan member at ASU, does not participate in their formal rush. It's also been awhile since I was there to tell you mush about the sororities there. But like the others said...just keep an open mind and be yourself and you'll find your home there!

LOL about Tempe. I was thinking about moving there. All the houses are gross. I think I'll stick to Phoenix. can't wait until AOII colonizes at ASU, though!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to finding out where I end up. It's good to know I'm not the only shy/non-party fanatic who's gone through rush (Or GOING through rush). I'm going to keep what you & IrishLake said in mind and maintain an open mind when going through rush!

Hi There. Wecome to Sun Devil Country. AZTheta is just jealy cause we won the Territorial Cup last year

You will have no problem fitting in the Greek System at ASU. Chapters have all kinds of women who are members. Every Chapter will have girls that party, girls who study, girls who don't drink, girls with good morals and girls with not so good morals. When you get 150 women in one place they are not all alike.

If you are shy I would recommend that you get recommendations for all the groups on campus. This should provide you with a second look at the chapters and allow them to get to know you better. Make sure you have good grades I think most Chapters require a decent GPA from HS. If you you were active in HS or held some offices that is a bonus too.

Also, tent talk is something to be ignored. I can not believe the misinformation that I hear from girls that I know going through recruitment. There is a lot of information out there and you need to experience recruitment for yourself. I can honestly say that all 12 groups on campus do the same activities and have meaningful ritual ceremonies. They all do mixers and formals. They all do bid night.

Here is the link to all things ASU Panhellenic recruitment related. http://asupan.com/
Good luck to you!
