misquoting & misattributing

i hate reading quotes that have been attributed to the wrong author, abbreviated for a graphic, or attributed to a respected person to give the words more weight, piggybacking on their credibility.

examples:
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” - Ghandi (nope.)
List of Misquotations

grammar aside, "don't believe everything you hear," printed in quotation marks above a guy who never said that, just makes it worse.

My fave = attributing a quotation to a movie character.

Ex: "Blah blah blah" - Carrie Bradshaw.

Carrie Bradshaw didn't say that. She is not a real person.

Sidenote: It's always that mindless "I spent my money on dinner instead of Vogue" quote, which is dumb anyway.

My favorite is when people put "Unknown" or "Anonymous" but a quote just because they don't know who said it and don't feel like looking it up. I've seen this most often in school essays.
