Question Interest Meetings

I was told that in order for a sorority to show interest in you, that you have to first show interest in them. I asked one of the lovely ladies from a sorority, that I hope I will someday be apart of, when they will have there interest meeting. She was very kind and told me that she would keep me updated. Was this the right thing to do?

Baby B, have you made your interest known to this particular organization before? Have you shown support for their service and social programs i.e. service projects, and parties? Showing interest goes beyond inquiring about when they will be having an interest meeting. I hope I'm not confusing an interest meeting with Rush. Do you mean Rush? Whatever you mean, do your research on all the organizations available to you. Also some other helpful tips: keep your grades up (above the minimum requirement), continue to serve your community, and get to know the ladies of that particular chapter. Also pray and meditate to find out if this is the right thing for you to do at all or at that particular moment. Good luck on your quest into the land of Greekdom. And another thing, you must be persistent. No one will hand you the keys to the kingdom. You must work for them. They will not call you everytime they are having a function. You must keep your eyes and ears open, if you know what I mean.

Sweetie,
Your interest will be greatly appreciated. I'm sure if you asked a member of that sorority and that chapter she informed you well. We've kinda addressed this question before in an earlier forum (it's the one about "Interested"), believe me I understand your eagerness to become, but Patience is the key to understanding. In time this particular org. will post information about events they are sponsering on campus. YOU GO TO THOSE EVENTS, but remain silent and observant. That's why we say, Inorder to be one, you must first see one. BE POSITIVE, BE SMART, GOOD LUCK.

A DELTA FOR LIFE

Thanks, NUPE4LIFE and DeltaDoll99. i appreciate it. this is an interest meeting although there will not be one for a while.i was told that interest meetings are held for freshman, too, even though i don't think that HBCU's are allowed to actually do anything until sophomore year. i have and will continuing to participate in the org's activities as well as others for community service. i will continue to be patient and my grades will continue to be good. thank you both.

Hi Baby B

I was in your shoes not too long ago. I will be rushing this spring, but began to show my interest before I was even out of high school. I began by surfing the sorority's website & e-mailing their president. She eventually gave me a call & we set up a day for her to take me on a tour of campus. I got to see the house & meet the girls & I soon began hanging out with a few of them & I now have great new friends who know how interested I am. Since they now know me, I am kept up to date on events and often invited. You did a good thing by contacting them.
My only advice is to just be your sweet self & keep in contact with them. Good luck in everything!!

Allison

For a BLGO it is necessary, but for a WGLO I don't think it is. I know people who liked one sorority and didn't even know the correct greek letters for that sorority. I think you're talking about a BLGO. She was very sincere with you. I've had not so sincere experiences. Some were down right rude to me and I tried to be nice. Always be yourself.
