Whats the most money a single item of clothing or accessory has cost you?

I was wondering what the most money some of you handbag/shoes/clothes consumers have spent on a single item?

And did you feel guilty afterwards?

And did you find out you could have gotten it much cheaper elsewhere?

I spent $1200 on a handbag and I never regretted it. That was several years ago and I still use it, so it seems like a wise investment.

My good handbags have been gifts so I didn't spend any money on them, but I did spend a conservative $200 on a neat pair of Doc Martens once. That's not really a lot, but this was in high school so it was a fortune to me then! If I had $650 lying around, I'd get some Louis Vuitton sandals like Jessica Simpson has.

I have lots of high-end stuff (a huge weakness of mine) but I hate paying the high prices. So most of my expensive stuff has been obtained on sale.

Prada bag--originally $400, I paid $200 at Saks Off Fifth

Chanel sunglasses--originally $250, I paid $180.

Those are just a few examples.

My wedding dress was $1000. I LOVE it and plan to keep it as an heirloom.

My mother bought 10 extra yards of material in case I wanted to make a ring pillow, etc. But, before we were married, I decided to keep the material and make baby blankets out of them...

We will bring Max home in his new blanket. (It's the satin from the dress with a softer, inner lining... ) The blanket should be made by June 10th!

BTW, I have never regretted spending a bit extra to find a dress that was perfect for me.

I do not regret skipping the all-popular David's Bridal in favor of a bridal boutique. David's Bridal had ugly dresses then. And, the saleslady kept ignoring me in favor of the girls who shopped with their mothers. Then, when I demanded someone help me, they tried to tell me anything I put on was THE dress for me...

At the boutique, they would tell me if I looked like crap in certain styles!

(Maggie Sottero is an awesome company. The dress was PERFECTLY made to my exact measurements...)

I guess I have two such items:

I bought my stainless Rolex Oyster Datejust watch to celebrate a promotion and I *think* I paid about $2,600 for it. I still wear nearly every day 13 years later.

I bought a gorgeous, beaded Badgley-Mishka gown to wear to one of Mr. KR's Navy functions while we were dating. I recall it being in the same price category as the Rolex, more or less. After two kids, I most definitely do not fit in it anymore but it is waiting patiently in the back of my closet just in case it should ever be called back into action!

LOL! When I was looking for a wedding dress, my mom and I made fun of David's Bridal. I never went there, but they always had the tackiest things in the window!

This is a hijack, but it's a short one...

EVERYONE in my small town goes to David's Bridal... And, every wedding I have been to in the past two years has had the EXACT same dress...No joke!!!
Needless to say, I shocked people with an ivory and cafe au lait dress

I will have to scan one in... I looked on the site to see if the style was still offered. But, alas, it's no longer offered.. (I got married in Dec. of '02.)

I will try to have one up by tomorrow night.

I would have to say my wedding dress also. But I was lucky and was able to purchase the sample dress for 1/2 price because it was being discontinued. And it rolled in at a whopping $400 with alterations!

I grew up in a very frugal family, old habits die hard. Someday soon, though, I will treat myself to an expensive classic handbag. And I will not feel guilty about it.

Chalk another one up to the wedding dress. I managed to get it for around 40% off by ordering it online, but it was still the most expensive clothing I've ever purchased for myself by far.

When you add in the veil, the shoes, and the undergarments, it cost a small fortune, but I've never regretted it for a second. I looked like a princess!
