Letters on Bid Day???

Hi Girls,

I was just wondering if your chapter allows pledges to wear letters on Bid Day, or if they have to wait until after initiation?

At our chapter we were given the choice as pledges on Bid Day to wear them or not, but we had to be unified as a class whether we were going to wear them or not. And we always voted unanimously that we didn't want to wear them yet, because we didn't know the history or meaning behind them yet.

The only letters that our Phis are allowed to wear (in my chapter) are the ones on the Bid Day shirts.

I don't like the idea of them wearing the actual Greek letters before initiation, because like said before, they don't know the real meaning behind them.

We are allowed to wear letters from Day 1. Last year our bid day shirts didn't show up in time, and we were given a set of the chapter letters to wear instead. As our advisor says, "Why wouldn't you want your beautiful new members to wear your letters?" They ARE sisters, they just don't know ritual yet.

Now, before someone gets mad...I can also see the case for not letting Phi's wear letters. There are some good points there. It's just that my own personal feeling, based on my pledge experience, leans the other way.

I think that it's OK for new Phis to wear letters because like Mezzo said, they are a part of our family even if they don't know what it means. My chapter let us, but we weren't allowed to have anything with the crest on it until initiation.
