Fixed. Stupid Tablet had some of the wrong dates and I know I'm missing two orgs but I don't know who.

ETA: I think I have everybody. If I got the info wrong please correct me.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm betting none of the music greeks are on the list. Since I happen to have that info handy (and I hope it's all correct), I'll go ahead. The organizations that participate in the National Interfraternity Music Council), in order of founding:
  • Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia -- October 6, 1898 (New England Conservatory of Music, Boston)
  • Sigma Alpha Iota -- June 12, 1903 (University School of Music, Ann Arbor)
  • Mu Phi Epsilon -- November 13, 1903 (Metropolitan College of Music, Cincinnati)
  • Delta Omicron -- September 6, 1909) (Cincinnati Conservatory of Music)
  • Phi Beta May 5, 1912 (Northwestern University, Evanston)
  • Kappa Kappa Psi -- November 27, 1919 (Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University))
  • Tau Beta Sigma -- March 26, 1946 (Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University))

You know, GC has a section showing "Today's Birthdays." I've often thought that there should be a "Today's Founders Days" notice.

I don't think Sigma Delta Tau is on the list. I think it's March 25, 1917, at Cornell University.

Nope none of the music greeks, and I just had the same thought about founders day. Maybe if people would register as the organization name and put the founding date as the birthday? And I added SDT.

I'm not trying to start a brawl here... but it seems somewhat misleading to list the dates of Phi Mu an ADPi as being the 1850's. They were founded as the Philomathean and Adelphean literary societies in the 1850's, but did not become Phi Mu and ADPi until the 1900's. So while the groups had origins in the 1850's, it's arguable that they were not in fact founded until the 1900's.

Most of the time I've seen those orgs list their founding dates with that caveat. For example, the Phi Mu website says "Phi Mu was founded in 1852 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. It began as the Philomathean Society, a literary society, and is the second oldest secret society for women. The Philomathean Society became Phi Mu Fraternity in 1904." The ADPi website lists their founding date as 1851 in most places, but on their timeline says, "1851: Alpha Delta Pi was founded by Eugenia Tucker on May 15th as The Adelphean Society, making it the first secret society for women....1905: The Adelphean Society changed its name to Alpha Delta Phi and became a national organization."

The same could be said of Pi Beta Phi, which was "I.C. Sorosis" until 1888, when they took the name Pi Beta Phi.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here. I know every group wants to claim to be the first! I guess it just depends on whether or not the name of the group matters - it seems that these groups had a fairly continuous purpose from their founding to the name change and onward. Nonetheless, in my mind, Kappa Alpha Theta is the first.

Yes, I meant calendar order (so people can go to the list and see which ones are coming up) as in:

ABC Founder's Day is Jaunary 2
DEF is January 19
GHI is February 3

And I did include the music greeks.

If members of their respective groups would like to share this type of info, that would be great, because I am only going by the sororities' own websites and NPC info. So please, if you have changes, feel free to PM to me so I can keep updating my list.

Yes, but unlike ADPi/Phi Mu, Pi Phi was founded as a women's fraternity (since the word sorority hadn't been coined yet.) The name changed, yes, but it's always been a fraternity (still is).

...What? I like brawling.

That's why I included it as kind of an afterthought... it didn't really fall into the same category as the other two.

Another APhi can correct me if i'm wrong, but even though there is speculation as to whether it was in September (although I've always hear Sept 30) or October, we celebrate our founders day on Oct 10. When I was a NM, I learned that we were founded on Oct. 10, 1872.

Many NPCs are founded as Women's Fraternities.

Mine included.
