Post Non-traditional Organizations

I have been talking to some of my sorors and other members of BGLOs on predominantly white campuses and have found that many (not all, so don't send angry letters about how your campus is different) campuses consider BGLOs "nontraditional organizations" and are either barred from or strongly encouraged not to participate in Pan organizations. This is astounding to me due to the fact that many of our organizations were founded (way) before other GLOs. Does anyone have some information on this topic?

Question

I went to an extremely large public university, and many members of the IFC and NPC referred to our BGLOs, LGLOs, AGLOs, religious-based GLOs, and alternative lifestyle GLOs (yes, we had all of these) as "not REAL fraternities/sororities." I asked people why they would make such statements and they said "well, you don't have houses!" and "you don't have rush like we do!" But it's interesting to note that the administration tried to get nearly every non-IFC/NPC organization to JOIN UP with these councils! I always wondered why the administration thought us "greek enough" to join IFC/NPC, but some people in those councils didn't even consider us to be "greeks."

after I first heard that this was happening, I wondered why any "non-traditional" orgainzations would want to join. If you think that I'm lesser than you, why join?
