my grandmother

My grandmother passed away a little over a week ago. She was a Delta Zeta at Samford University (well, before it was even Samford). Anyway - being the only other greek member in our family, I have her badge and cherish it very much. Theres other little delta zeta pins and things she has that are very neat - and would never think to sale. They are from the late 1930's. My school doesn't have delta zeta - but i hope any future greatgrandchildren will either be chi o's or dz's in order to pass the pin on.

first off, i am sorry to hear about your grandmother. secondly, i think it's good that you want to keep her pin and DZ stuff in the family. i mean, i understand why people get upset when non-DZs have pins, but as you are a family member and a fellow greek i think you understand the importance of the items and wouldn't let them fall into improper hands.

Thank you for posting, Cathy.

I am sure that she would be pleased that her Badge and other DZ items mean so much to you and that you are holding on to them. And I personally would rather they be in your possession than in a vault at our HQ.

I am very sorry for your loss, sweetie.

Cathy-
First-I just want to tell you I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm sure she was very special to you--and I'm glad she has someone like you who cares about her legacy. I concur with what's been said here--while I don't like "outsiders" to have our badge, I think in cases like this, it is entirely appropriate for you to have it for safe keeping, especially in the event you are able to pass it on to one of her future heirs.

I have one quick request though-if she was not involved with any alumnae activities (and therefore, someone in the DZ family will be able to do this), please notify someone in at our National Headquarters that she has passed on so that she can be honored in The Lamp and at our Memorial Service at National Convention this summer. You can e-mail the info to dzs@dzshq.com.

Like Tracy said, you & your family are in our thoughts.
