I love that dress too despite how badly it's being modeled.

If I were going with a strapless, I'd definitely consider this one:

I love this thread and usually check it every night. With KSU's help I've realized that I love chiffon. I had no idea.

I adore this dress:

Thanks. These posts are the product of my boredom/procrastination/avoiding work (and trying to recover from my birthday festivities today LOL).

Wanted to add (for the laid back dress people) :

Beverly Lister.

Alan Hannah.

And not a dress (we don't have a wedding/veil hairpiece thread), but a friend of mine was having a really hard time finding something to wear in her hair (she's not wearing a veil). I found these and thought they were cute:

Sad that Beverly Lister is not sold in America. That gown is gorgeous.

^^^ I know. I was helping my friend find a hairpiece and I came across that dress and was in awe of it's gorgeousness.

If I were getting married, I would seriously travel to the UK to try it on. lol.

I feel that way about a couple of gowns I posted that are only available in Spain. My hypothetical future MOH and myself would have to take a little field trip (we could make it vacay!) But LOL at my dad going for that. I can hear his hypothetical future laughter already.

Thanks to this thread, I have realized picking out my dress is going to be way harder than I thought. I used to think I knew exactly what I wanted. That isn't the case anymore.

I've heard from a lot of brides that you don't actually KNOW what you want until you start trying them on.

Ex: I have a friend who always pictured herself in an embellished ballgown. All the dresses she sent me/clipped out of mags/etc. were strapless ballgowns with pleating and beading on the bodices. Her fave dress ever was a Kenneth Pool pleated ball gown.

We went to a store, and they pulled all the ballgowns (incl. the KP) she was interested in. She tried them all on and liked them, but didn't really love them like she thought they would. And the KP was not as pretty on as it was in the pic (happens sometimes).

So she asked if she could look around for awhile. Her sister was with us, and she randomly saw heavily beaded mermaid with the same type of bodice detailing that friend wanted.

So we were like "You HAVE to try this on!" Her: "I don't think I want a mermaid. I never pictured myself in one, and I don't like how it looks on other people." She did and she LOVED (and bought it).

So even though you think you want one type of dress, you really never know!

It's also good to try on different dress styles because hey, there are limited times in your life where you can try on wedding gowns. If nothing else, it's amusing (one of my friends tried on a dress that was pink and had the appearance of a cupcake just for fun.)

You know, it's funny - everyone (my mom, my sister, the women at the shop, etc.) all insisted on this, and I went along, trying on a ton of different dresses, and I wound up buying the first dress I tried on, that I had brought in a picture of from a magazine because I thought it was pretty. Gut instinct works too

You're totally right. The same thing happened with my college roommate. She always saw herself in that huge gown, and went to try them on. She said she looked so short and it wasn't flattering. She ended up getting a very tightly-fit A Line and looked beautiful!

I think the first one looks a little too toga. The bottom one reminds me of The Great Gatsby. It's lovely. And, please, someone give that model some food!
