Great blog on the Theta website posted today. A Delta Gamma wanted to stop by HQ and drop off a her mother's badge, as well as a badge belonging to another family member. The "other family member" was the great-great grandmother Abbie North and an initiate in 1873. Abbie was a member of the Indiana Gamma chapter at Moore's Hill College. This chapter was only in existence from 1871-1876 and only 18 women were initiated into the chapter. Abbie was the ninth.

Awesome story! I'm so excited we've resurrected Badge Trends!

Now maybe thetygerlilly will start posting more frequently too *hint*

Absolutely amazing to have such a historic badge just walk into your headquarters one day! Great story!

WOW!! How wonderful to have this piece of early Theta history and not have it wind up on "that site". Thank you to that thoughtful DG!

Subtle, very subtle... but challenge noted and accepted!

How about this one? The front photo is blurry, but there is a nice back shot for AzTheta. No date but I'd estimate from the 1920s, possibly 1910s. The member initiated before that but it's very likely a replacement badge. Pearl with three diamonds.

My favorite parts: the smooth round "bulge", painted enamel letters (today the letters are raised and the enamel is inside the raised outline), dots between the letters, and the clasp. The engraving is quite lovely too.

See, wasn't that fun?

That badge is really stunning, especially the painted letters!

I have a few more Delta Chi badges that I might have time to post today!

Again sorry, I just wanted to show the pins.

They are not mine. This sounds so picky. That link has been up for a long time with no bids anyway. Bid or do not bid, I could care less.

Part of it is that sometimes members of specific groups are trying to "rescue" badges of their groups, while collectors (unrrelated to their groups) are also looking for badges. Lots of people, including collectors, read these pages, not just the people you see posting here. Publicizing the auctions here can have the result of increasing the bidding, driving up the prices, and sometimes pricing the badges out of range for rescuers. Maybe that wouldn't happen with this particular badge, but it has happened with others.

As I understand it, some GLOs actually ask their members not to publicize sales/auctions of their badges; instead, members are asked to notify their HQs so that a rescue can be attempted. The idea there is to avoid having different members of the same GLO trying to rescue the badge, and driving the price up in the process, or competing against a bidder bidding on behalf of the HQ.

For these reasons, the general consensus in this thread has been that if one sees a badge that one thinks would be of interest to members of another GLO, the best course is to PM some members of that GLO.

Add to that that many in this thread see this thread as being about pictures of older, special or "blinged-out" badges. Posting ebay auctions seems like a distraction from that main purpose of the thread.

The engraving on the back of the KKG badge is *awesome*. The badge itself is fabulous, too.
