Heyyyy, I'm going to be in Chicago this weekend......

Congrats Lovespink! So happy for you, especially with all the crazy long-distance stuff you've had to deal with this year! Enjoy your wedding weekend!

Thank you everyone (you too, AGDee & RaggedyAnn)!!!

Another funny hiccup: the boy and I went to pick up his ring (we had it resized). Yesterday, he jammed his ring finger in a pick up bball game and didn't think twice about it. Welp, today his ring doesn't fit AT ALL! This must have not been the first time the jewelry has seen this, because she was quick to offer us a loaner--how nice of them, right??

Guess what I'm going to be doing during your wedding tomorrow?

Watching a Cubs game! You can consider this an "eff you, lovespink" for not inviting me.

Holy moly. It's tomorrow. For someone who has had her struggles with anxiety, I am shockingly calm. A good sign, ay?

Tomorrow's gonna be a great day

^^ I hope that your day was amazing

In my own wedding news, fiance and I are hoping to deposit on our venue in a few months. After two years, it's good to have something checked off the list.

Congrats, lovespink! Hope you've had a great day.

My current wedding observation: So nice Canon DSLR cameras are super cheap now. This has led to a ton of weddings shot by Uncle Mike Photo. Like, people not hiring professionals, and saying "Oh my Uncle Mike has a good camera and says he'll shoot our wedding for free" when he's NEVER shot an event ever and his only photography experience includes taking backyard pics of his kids and dog.

Then you see their photos and they look like I shot them with my digital cam.

I don't understand it. The day goes by so fast and the pics are all you have. Why leave photographing it to a relative with a Canon just to save money?

Maybe for some of them, that's the way that they can have the family and friends they want there. Everyone has to make sacrifices for their wedding--maybe having okay photos and better food, or okay photos and a larger guestlist is more important than having amazing photos.

You're totally right in that everyone who buys a digital SLR calls themselves a photographer these days. I don't understand how many of my HS classmates can have "baby photography" businesses in my hometown. I think it's primarily there for stay-at-home moms to feel like they're working. It's the same with MLM stuff--not sure how a town of 25,000 can sustain so many Mary Kay, Herbalife, and Nerium representatives.

Oh yes, everyone with a DSLR is a "photographer" these days. Lots of people doing senior/kiddie/wedding photos now just picked up a camera 6 months- a year ago after they took some cute pics of their own kids and thought "I can totally make money doing this." I call them "faux"-tographers.

I get needing to save money, but geez. Hiring a relative who has never shot a wedding is risky.

I've seen posts by brides on the.knot saying that they hired someone like you described above and have never gotten their wedding pics 6 months or more down the road. Likely because Amateur Ann or Andy didn't realize how much work is really involved in taking and editing photos. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
