We went to Olive Garden the other night. Tonight will be the Take Home pasta, with fresh salad and bread sticks.

^ Ugh. Thumbs firmly DOWN on Olive Garden.

First off, it's not even close to authentic Italian food - I could name a dozen trattorias in easy driving distance of my house that would put OG to shame, and I make a trip to Arthur Ave. in the Bronx at least once a year. ZOMG - meats, cheeses, pasta, bread - walk into any store and inhale and you will go straight to heaven.

Second, I was really put off by a very rude waiter at an OG. I was by myself, on travel, first job out of college - hence, expense account-y goodness. (The only thing that tastes better than sushi is expense-account sushi. But that's btw.) Anyway, there was an OG near the hotel where I was staying, so I popped over for dinner. I ordered a glass of wine. The waiter carded me. (I have no problem with this, as I was only 22 at the time.) But then he got surly ... I suspect it was because he couldn't deny me my wine on the grounds that I was underage, because - duh - I wasn't underage. I got slow and rude service - "here's your pasta" level - and I tipped accordingly and never went back. To ANY OG.

(snipped for length)
I vastly prefer authentic Italian food, but my ulcer-prone tummy does not. The next ulcer will mean major surgery, so I eat pretty much one step away from pablum!

Butternut squash pasta for one.

(Husband stabbed me in the back by getting McDonald's before I got home on a late train. Augh.)

Ah, finally cooler weather!!!!

So, putting oven to work.

Baking BBQ chicken leg quarters and Shake N Bake using port leg quarters.

Add some mash taters with cream gravy and yellow corn.

Saving BBQ chicken for another day!!!
