There are 8 available houses on the hill, 4 of which house sororities, the others are regular dorms. I'm sure one of these would be used to house the new sorority. I'd love to see Greek life grow at SHSU. It's a great school known for education and criminal justice and the communications school is named after Dan Rather because he went to SHSU for college. It's also a beautiful campus and a nice town to live in. You are about an hour and a half from Houston and an hour from where Texas A&M University is located in College Station, TX. Delta Zeta was present from 1959-1989, Kappa Delta was present from 1960-1995 and Chi Omega had a chapter present from 1965-1999.
I would love to see any of the old groups come back but I'd love to see A Phi and Gamma Phi there too--lots of alumnae in Houston!

From our international office: Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity has regretfully discontinued our efforts to recolonize our Beta Kappa Chapter at Tulane. We thank the fraternity/sorority community for its support and wish the outstanding women that we met all the best in their future endeavors.

LaneSig AND irishpipes: For your list(s):

Delta Gamma recently closed its chapter at Lehigh (in PA), but NOT for low numbers or financial problems. Among other things, there was a ”membership review.” For details please see long article in the student paper:

Hope a group gets to re-colonize. Always a boost for the old alums!

I see Alpha Delta Pi is set to recolonize in 2014. I'm sorry to hear Zeta Tau Alpha had to discontinue recolonization efforts.

Sorry to hear this--I was hoping Tulane's Greek system would keep growing

Phi Mu and Gamma Phi seem to be presenting to the same schools a lot this year - my awesome membership vice-president of the Greater Katy Alumnae Panhellenic is a Phi Mu so we get to razz each other.

Very disappointing for everyone involved. There were 150 women committed to Zeta at Tulane but their target was 180. It is a real shame that the Beta Kappa chapter missed being colonized by 30 members.

Sororities vie for spot on campus

ByKelsey Shirriff March 06, 2013

The University of Minnesota is formally bringing a new sorority to campus for the first time in decades — but the chapter has to beat out other contenders first.

This weekend national chapters Phi Mu, Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta will present to a committee reasons each should be the one chosen to come to the University.

Overflowing chapters, connecting to alumni and recent University support for participating in greek life contributed to the decision to add a new sorority, said Matt Levine, program director for the Office for Fraternity and Sorority life.

“It’s a huge deal,” he said. “It is the most exciting thing that they’ve been able to do on the sorority side in a long time. It’s going to bring a ton of energy to our community.”

Good luck to all those participating.
Do any of these groups still own a house on campus?
I believe Delta Delta Delta sold their house after closing (in 2004).

Dancing, dancing, dancing.
Wish Phi Mu hadn't sold their house, though.
