How close are you to your ZTA sisters??

Hey Ladies,

I hope I don't offend anyone with this post, but seriously....how close are you to your sisters in your chapters?? I am not close to hardly any of mine because they never call, nobody ever wants to hang out.....and it makes me really sad, because I'm a senior now and I love ZTA...but I think I love it more on a universal level now....It just makes me really sad that our chapter really only hangs out as a whole when we have mandatory ZTA stuff like workshops, chapter meetings, service projects..etc. And what's even worse is that we're small! Like 30 girls total..... I moved up here and didn't know a soul and that's why I went through recruitment back in 02'.....I don't know...guess I need to vent. Have any of you ever felt like loners in your chapter??? Plus our recruitment rules this year are horrible! (Another sorority on campus is Panhellenic president). This year we cannot have any contact with ANY female registered at our school or intending to register unless they're like married! I'm in nursing school and I'm closer with a few of my classmates in there than with some of my sisters....well...no one that is a senior in nursing school would EVER think about going through recruitment....and there is one friend of mine who is not married, not engaged and I can't eat lunch with her because of that stupid rule! Our classes are timed so that we get a 1 hr lunch break and a lot uf usually go in same cars to fast food or restaurants and now I can't do that because that one girl....isn't that ridiculous?! And get this...the panhellenic president is in nursing school with me! And my 21st birthday is on a saturday next month and my nursing school friends want to take me out...well, now I'm not sure what to say because the one girl who's not married would be a part of it and it would be breaking a recruitment rule....It's sad when my own sisters don't even care about my birthday and I have other friends who do, but thanks to the rush rules it may not happen. Ugh! It just makes me mad!

i think that everyone every now &

then feels like you. you must be awfully busy in nursing school and entering your sr. year....well, it can really get you down at times. keep asking your sisters to do specific stuff. don't give up on them.

are you certain the no talk rule applies to all women enrolled at your school? it seems that it should be applied to only those women who would be going thru recruitment. maybe whomever told you about it misinterpreted it?

i have been out of college for quite a while. and moved several times, out of the state and then back in. many times zetas have become my best friends, and these were(and are)women from other chapters from around the country. sticking with zeta has really paid off for me. zlam, lisa

our recruitment rules are retarded too... I'm not allowed to talk to any females, cause even if I know they're definitely not going through recruitment, it still applies. And that definitely sucks because I never hang out with my sisters (as awful as that sounds) because I'm really not close to them... I think I kinda missed out on the whole bonding thing. I know a lot of girls hang out with each other constantly... and I don't. I know other girls are the same as me, and some broke down at the retreat crying about it... and I really thought that was going to change some things, but it didn't.
Point is, you're not alone with how you feel

thank you

Thank you for being honest Kerry. I knew I couldn't be the only one....it's just sad...my chapter is only 25 girls right now....I never talk to my big, my lil is too busy for me and I feel like all I"m good for is to be another body at Rush to make us look bigger. We had rush practice last night and I forced myself not to cry after I realized I was the Theta Nu loner! Plus, I live with one of my sisters and she's never around. Always staying with her boyfriend...well, she came in last night and didn't even speak to me. (I haven't seen her since Saturday). How sad. Anyway, I find that I love talking to other Zetas which is why I"m on here all the time and I've made some friends through ebay....but here's my aol name if you ever want to talk online: Iluvzta7724.

My 21st birthday's in August and my friends want to take me out in Miami, but so many people stick around in Miami (including sorority girls) that I'd be afraid to go out lest someone recognizes me and gets me (and Zeta) in trouble. And then the girls in charge of recruitment at our chapter told us to "use good judgment" when talking to our non-zeta friends... which is gonna be hard cause all of my roommates (on campus, mind you) are not sorority girls. So they are seriously trying to convince me to get a wig, lol. My present roommate is thinking of getting me one as an early birthday present, lol.
But I agree with you, I love talking to other zetas... for some reason, I talk to zetas who aren't in my chapter more than the ones who are... go figure! my sn on aim is layla2728 (yeah I know, original) if anyone's bored
ZLAM,
Cherine

Wink

Krissy is one of my sisters and I have felt the same way she does when I was in. I just recently went Alumni after spring semester. I feel really bad for all the girls that are going through what Krissy is. The sad thing also is when we get together to talk about things like this people start denying that there are problems, and then everything works out for a while and then goes back to the way it was.

Hun you know I'm here for you anytime!

I've always felt that if you leave your sorority days having made 1 best friend than the greek experience was worth it. It's nearly impossible to be close to everyone...especially if you're in a bigger chapter. As long as you've made friends with one person who you know you'll always keep in touch with, then I wouldn't consider you a "loner".
With my chapter's size, it would be impossible to be friends with everyone nonetheless know their names! I was lucky enough to become good friends with a few girls who I know will always be there for me. After all, that's all that matters.

I completely agree with ZTAngel.

When I left school, I had about 5 girls that I was still really close to. Since then, it's down to about 1 and she's the one that I care about most. We've been friends since the first day of (summer) school and I don't know what I would do without her. She is my best friend and always will be. I no longer speak to my big sister as well as one of her pledge class sister (she took sides, and I can't blame her). When I left, I left 2 of my friends still in school. One I still stayed very close to, but just recently (like a month or so ago) she came to visit me and I saw a completly different side to her and I just don't know if the friendship is still there. The other girl I left at school, just changed completely - but that's fine. I still have all the memories of all the good, bad, and crazy shit we went through and those are worth every penny I spent in Zeta.

When I first joined I loved all my sisters. I got along great with everyone. Then, beginning with the pledge class after mine things started going downhill. I am still close to certain sisters in the chapter, but I don't feel that sad not being collegiate anymore. I've had more fun as an alum than anything

I pledged at a small chapter (Zeta Nu), and knew all of the sisters. I am not saying I was best friends with everyone, but I knew who they were. In the (many) years that have followed, I am still close to some, keep in touch with others, and have totally lost contact with the rest. Unfortunately, my Big and I no longer are in touch (I think she never forgave me for transfering without taking a little first). She stopped contact with me early on after I left. I never even met my "twin".
On the other hand, one of my pledge sisters and I regularly chat and I get to see her now and again (we live far apart).

My chapter is in a commuter school. It made it hard. I told one of my sisters that "we may all be sisters, but we are not all friends".

That really got her mad - she did everything she could to become my friend as well as my sister.

She even wrote me a poem..

STRANGERS ON YESTERDAY....
SISTERS TODAY....
FRIENDS TOMORROW....

Unforturnately she was killed in a car wreck 10 years ago in April. I miss her but I know that she is watching me (in fact I named my 3rd child after her).

My big sister and I don't talk anymore either. But there are a couple of sisters that I still keep in contact with.

I have been really lucky to have gotten involved with an AWESOME alum chapter (Winston-Salem, NC) and have meet some wonderful sisters!

I'm now in the local alumni chapter, too, and totally loving it! I didn't realize how much I missed my sisterhood.

Denise, your advisor always loved you & still does - she is even your adopted big sis. Even though she doesn't talk with you often or email all that often, she still loves you!!!

Give that sweet hubby of yours a hug for me!!

I know how many of you feel, but I am in a bit of a different situation being 31 and the oldest in my chapter. I also suffer from depression, and tend to withdraw so I won't burden people with my illness. I have little to no contact with my sisters over the last month and a half. Sometimes I wonder if they even care.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE ZTA and everything we stand for. I am the person people come to when they have concerns. (Dear Abby of sorts) But when it comes to "true" friendships, I have made more of those through greekchat, than in my chapter.
