In OPA, we don't name the pledge class until initiation. The class is named based off the number of girls they had (eg. my pledge class was "9 Dancing Ladies"), and every girl is named off of that theme (eg. in my pledge class, we were all named after dances). The names don't really get used, especially since you're already a sister by the time you learn your own, but it's a cute thing for us to add to Rose Night.

Snort Absolutely Everything, any truth to that? :P
I liked space dock conception. My step brother joined after I did, so we named him obviously adopted.

I never understood the whole family thing, seems dumb to have little "clans" inside your organization.

Nicknames
The way we do it is that after the 7th or 8th week of pledging (out of 10) we give out pledges their fraternity nickname. Ideas are given by the brothers at a normal meeting and they are based of of things the pledges have done throughout their pledging. Only brothers know the true meaning of the nickname, although some are pretty obvisious. The big brother has the final say in the nickname. Once the name is given that is how we refer to people, this is especialyl helpfull if you have 2 people with the same name like mike, or ed or something. No nickname is ever repeated so when you say "XYZ did this" everyon knows who you are talking about. Some nicknames last outside of meetings, others do not. My nickname is Glick, a lot of people call me that. One if my brother is names Tramp, and he is refered to by his real name.
Nicknames are a great way to connect with your organization better. Once you get a nickname you feel more accepted and pat of the group, and hopefully this makes you a better brother.

We do class names, family names, and line names. Each class gets a name based on their letter. (We're officially the Luscious Lambdas, but our mom always likes to call us the Lambda Lesbians...)
Then family names, these are made up by whoever's first in the family, so since we're small, probably a Charter. They can be really fancy or simple, it's up to whoever does it, but generally they're some kind of commentary on the member and their line, what they're like and all.
Then line names, which are suggested by everyone and decided by your big, given out at some point during pledge (ours were given out at the end, but our sisters at another school nearby got theirs right away) and then you find out what your nickname means at the end.
Mine's Cherry Blossom. I think more often than not, they don't really get used, although they are usually used when someone's putting your name on a present, or when people are being cutesy and writing on each other's Facebook. :P

Mine is Amnesia and his is Seizure. So i guess yea my frat does it and we also have numbers on line i'm a number 1 and he is a number 4. thus my sig
