This is a fabulous story! CONGRATS on Alpha Gam!
I didn't start reading it until now, unfortunately. I'm especially interested b/c my little sister just went through rush at IU. Her story ended a little differently, though. She had full schedules every day of rush, she has a great resume and grades, she's gorgeous and dresses well, she knows some people in most houses, and she is a legacy of one of the sororities there (I'm a Theta), so she thought she had a decent chance. Of the 3 she visited on pref night, one of them was out of the question because the girl she talked to literally said "We really want you here in XYZ so tell me where else you've been asked back to and I'll tell you bad stuff about them." There were other reasons, too, for not wanting XYZ, but I'll refrain from mentioning them for anonymity's sake. So she didn't even list them when she signed her bid. Her first choice after prefs was, incidentally, AGD. Yesterday she found out that she did not get a bid back either of the two she wanted, and to make matters worse, her best friend got a bid for AGD. She was on a list of people who got a bid to XYZ, but it was the worst fit for her, so she's not sure how that happened.
Sadly, that kind of story is far too common. A girl on my sister's floor had the same thing happen, she got all her top choices back each round and then after prefs did not get a bid. Other friends of hers got only 2 or 3 houses back after the first cut! IU has a truly brutal system (what is up with counting beds?? I'm sure some girls would love to be in their first-choice house, even if there wasn't room for them to stay there. Theta's pledge class was 38 there b/c of that limitation-- a fifth of the amount of girls that rushed at IU went through rush at my school, and our new member class was quota +1 at 21-not that much less!).
So I'm really proud of your positive attitude through all of this, and AGD is very lucky to have you as a new sister! I'm glad your story turned out well! <3
