Are you an active alumni member?

It's probably been asked before, but how many of you are actively involved with your GLO as an alum?

Are you involved in the local, regional or (inter)national level?

What do you do, specifically?

Why did you choose this area of involvement?

Are you also a dues paying alumni member of your GLO? If so, does that mean you pay dues only to your local alumni chapter or you pay separate local and international alumni dues to be considered an active alumna? If you are not a dues paying alumni member, why not?

I know that AOP, DDD, DC and SC have Life Loyal programs and I'm sure there are more. If your GLO has a "Life Loyal" type program, are you a member? If not, why not?

Yes, I am a life loyal although we call it Lifetime Links. I started out an active collegian and charter member, traveled as a consultant, became chair of a committee, Chaired two consecutive conventions, served on NPC delegation and our Executive Council and currently serve as Director of Expansion for the past 9 years.

I have been, but law school has sort of put that on hiatus.

I keep in touch with our alumni chapter and still receive information and updates from the actives. I also donate to both my chapter and the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation.

Upon finishing law school, I'm planning on increasing my involvement. I'm not sure in what capacity, but I'll make myself available if nothing else to mentor active brothers as part of the chapter's program for outgoing seniors.

Yep, it's been asked before.........

Yes, I'm involved.

Local and International

Current: AC President, Sorority Coord - Alum Extension

Prior: HCB Member, HCB Treasurer, Scholarship Advisor, International Nominating Committee, Task Force Chair

I enjoy working with alumnae members and growing our organization.

In order to be considered "in good standing" at an international level, you have to pay internaitonal dues and to be considered "in good standing" at a local lever, you have to pay local dues. I pay both.

Not sure what Life Loyal is.

I am active as I can be...I have some great ideas that I would love to work on, for both the local level and International level....

once I *do* become initiated, I will also look to become involved in the local Panhellenic chapter....

There are *some* things that I can do on the national level, I am just waiting to hear back from them, I submitted my volunteer application a few weeks back and I spoke with the Volunteer Coordinator before I did that to make sure that I would be able to participate

Phi Mu and Me

I am as active as I can be.

I am currently president of my local alumnae chapter and I run a VERY active email list for sisters in my GLO.

I support Phi Mu foundation and I am a member of the newly developed "Forever Faithful" program. (yes it is like paying double dues ) designed to sustaining operating expenses for the fraternity side of operations.

I currently serve as an Area Coordinator Collegians(24 chapters). I have also served as a Province Director (7 chapters) and on the Finance Committee as a Province Finance Specialist (7 chapters). Prior to that, I was Chapter Advisor, Finance Advisor and Membership Advisor for my chapter of initiation. I also served on their House Association.

I am also involved in an alumnae club as the Yahoo groups coordinator and usually hostess one meeting each year in addition to participating in all the philanthropies and attending as many meetings as I can.

I pay alumnae dues to the International Fraternity and social dues to my alumnae club. I contribute to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.

I wear the Arc of epsilon pi with diamond, an honor given to alumnae for years of consecutive, faithful and outstanding service.

Yep, I'm active.

I figured it had been asked before, but thought it worth bringing up again!

To answer my own questions:

I'm currently involved at the local level as a dues paying alumnae chapter member. I serve as the President of our local collegiate chapter's (House) Corporation Board. The time and availability commitment for this position fit well for me, and I was asked to fill a need and said yes. I'm glad I did because I've learned a lot.

I'm also a charter member of our Life Loyal AOII program (#58). More info on our program at www.lifeloyal.org if you're not familiar with how these work. AOII does not have any separate international alumnae dues or fees.

Previously, I've been active as an alumnae chapter member in KY and MA, a member of the AOII Always and Rosevine alum programs (what we had before Life Loyal AOII), an Alumnae chapter officer (Education and Treasurer), and a member of the Alumnae Advisory Committee for my chapter of initiation (served as Chapter Adviser for a few years, and also served as Education, Chapter Relations and Rush/Recruitment adviser before and concurrently with CA).

I'm still involved because I like it. Really, it's just that simple.

We don't have "Life Loyal", we have "ReMember ADPi". Once you are initiated, you're a lifetime member; you can ReMember ADPi and help the sorority financially. I contribute to the ADPi Foundation, and the Abigail Davis Loan Fund (for collegiates having trouble paying tuition).

I've been a Chapter Advisor, and served on the Housing Corporation several years. I regularly donate both time and money to the local chapter.

I've been Treasurer of the now-defunct Alumnae Association, and a Charter Member of the new Alumnae Association.

I consider myself active!

I try and pay my ReMember dues every year (I think I forgot one year )

I started serving as an advisor to one collegiate chapter last year, and when they closed, was asked to advise for another chapter. (I've held Finance and now am Membership Education Advisor).

I've been a dues paying member of our local alumnae association for three years now - this year I've served as treasurer of the association.

Someday, I'd love to be involved at a regional and perhaps the international level, but for now, local is perfect as I finish up with grad school!

Right now I'm a full time Alpha Phi. I don't know how women can work and volunteer at the same time, my hat is off to all of them. I guess I'm just not that organized! Currently, I am the VP Programming for my AC (although elections are tonight, I usually take whatever position no one else wants-was even president one year!), Chapter Advisor at Bentley College, and Recruitment Advisor at Tufts University. I also just volunteered to help with our Dartmouth colony just yesterday! Eek, I don't know how I'll fit it all in with a baby coming in 5 weeks!

I also pay my local and international dues every year and try to give a decent amount to the Foundation every year as well.

I was involved immediately following graduation, as an assistant alumnus advisor (AAA). I mainly helped out with paperwork issues, although I advised the chapter on all sorts of things, from procedural and disciplinary matters to questions about ritual. Because of increased job responsibilities and my law school search, that has been put on hold, and probably will continue to be through school.

Afterwards, I'd like to be involved in some way, although the extent remains to be seen.

Laura, I agree with you! I see ladies who wear so many hats in sorority, I don't know how they do it - unless a heavy dose of speed comes with the jobs!

My hat's off to you and everyone who really live their sorority or fraternity's ideals!

Speed no, but an inability to say no sometimes. When it's something you enoy, often you don't notice how much you're doing.

What happens is usually one of two things:

1) They do nothing else but live, and breath their GLO (been there, did that for a few years).

2) They don't necessarily do as good a job as someone else with more time would have done and something suffers.

And before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me I'm insulting someone, I have direct experience with both.......

I have found that it's common for higher ups to not pay attention to what a woman is already doing before they offer her something else. And when a higher up asks, it's hard to say no.
