I have read a lot of these posts about "going national" if you are a local organization or have questions about it. All I can say is that my organization definitely knows a thing or two about "going national" or merging into another National. This is because we have done both! However, if your organization is interested in "going national" please consider Tau Delta Phi Fraternity.
Tau Delta Phi is a moderately-sized national fraternity with a high-touch approach that could provide the human capital and time necessary to help the organization become even more successful. We also have a housing corporation to manage communal living arrangements as well as an educational foundation to provide scholarships to our undergraduates. We also have liability insurance.
Tau Delta Phi is a non-sectarian and non-discriminatory National Fraternity founded in 1910 at NYU and CCNY. Tau Delta Phi Fraternity is also a member of the North American Interfraternity Conference, and originally joined this prestigious organization in 1922. Tau Delta Phi also holds membership in The Fraternity Executives Association and in the Capitol Fraternal Caucus. Tau Delta Phi also has members belonging to the Association of Fraternity Advisors as well. Our reputation of a strong National presence precedes us. We believe in the individuality of our members as well as the educational responsibility of our men. What sets Tau Delta Phi apart from other fraternities is that the TauDelt spirit, (the guiding spirit of our founders) exists within very closely knit chapters who interact with one another. This means that each of our chapters have no barrier of brotherhood from surrounding chapters. Additionally, Tau Delta Phi maintains a national office in Manhattan.
We believe that our members own their education. Also, we believe that it is our responsibility to help them invest in it. While our members are enrolled in college, it is our responsibility, in partnership with the college, to help guide and mentor our members to contribute in their social development within their educational process. Our members are in college foremost to grow as an individual, explore outside their world, and gain understanding of its conceptual boundaries. It is based upon this philosophy that we see our Fraternity as a basis for persistence towards graduation.
Approximately 35-40% of our chapters originated as a local fraternity. 50% of our current active chapters originated as a local fraternity and still maintain the majority of their unique traditions. Less than 20 years ago, Tau Delta Phi shifted from being national to become local once again only to reemerge as a national fraternity. We also have been through a merger process twice! Therefore we can appreciate and understand what the benefits are to being both local and national. Our worldview is a little different than other national fraternities given our historical legacy and personal story.
