Balfour Cup (Aug. 2014 news)

Pi Phi’s Pepperdine chapter has received Pi Phi’s highest award, the Balfour Cup, according to this news item from a Malibu source:

And, if you'd like a little trivia to accompany this news...

The first Balfour Cup was had the inscription "The Ruth DeHass Balfour Memorial Cup." It is on display at Pi Phi's headquarters.

Ruth DeHass Balfour was a Butler Pi Phi (Indiana Gamma). Ruth Balfour and her husband, Sigma Chi Lloyd Garfield Balfour, visited many Pi Phi chapters selling badges. A talented violinist, she spoke about her musical talents at Pi Beta Phi’s 1918 Charlevoix Convention. Sadly, she died of pneumonia in 1919, six years after their marriage. In 1921, Balfour gave the Balfour Memorial Cup to Pi Beta Phi in his wife’s memory. To this day, the Balfour Cup remains Pi Beta Phi’s top chapter honor.
